CLASS HISTORY Sometlmes through cur1os1ty we project our thoughts mto the future Othertlmes w1th tenderness and affectlon we remlnlsce Let us retrace our steps noyv to those eventful days when we as w1de eyed sophomores entered Holyoke H1gh School rn September of 1950 Welcomlng us was our pr1nc1pal Nlr Fltzpatrlck Hls frank and gemal manner made us feel at home Under hrs and the faculty s fr1endly gu1dance we were soon accustomed to our strange surroundmgs Our first move came wlth the annual Blg Slster Party October 97 1950 We as l1ttle sisters were escorted by our BIG sophlstlcated ststers to the audltorlum where some of our sophomore glrls d1d some very good entertammg In November we went to the polls and chose Leo Byrnes Presldent Ga1l Jones Vlce Presldent Carol Daly Secretary Don Lbertalll Treasurer and Bob Bennet Marshall Carol Kennedy and Ronny La'XIontagne represented us on the Student C,ounc1l Lablnet Plgskln season arrlved and we were soon aware that the grldlron stalwarts were of cham plonshxp cahbre Coach Roberts and h1s boys romped through the season tled only bv Chlcopee A telegram from Columbus Ceorgla brought the thrlllmg news that Holyoke Peanut Bowl contest Although our boys gaye a thrxllmg account of themsely es they were defeated by Rockmart Hlgh 20 14 Thelr defeat was softened however by the raylng welcome they rece1ved from all of us on the1r return The Soccer team ma1nta1ned Holyoke Hlgh School s champ1onsh1p reputatron and walked off w1th the Hampshlre League Txtle After putt1ng up a great fight they were defeated however ln the Western Massachusetts Soccer Tourney finals Durlng the Chrlstmas vacatlon the annual Junlor Senlor Prom was held ln the War Memorlal Bulldlng audltorlum Chrtstmas decorattons were used w1th a large tree as the center of attractlon The dance was a blg success and we as sophomores were thrllled to have as our dates SENIORSH After the Chrlstmas vacat1on mud year exams and basketball vred for our attentlon The hoopsters won 15 out of 17 games but some of our classmates dtdnt sury 1ye the mmd years Holyoke Cathollc our arch r1y als were defeated twlce w1th last second set shots by Ed Hurley These two games were the hlghhghts of the season and yve nor our fingernanls shall ever forget them Completmg the wmter sports cy cle at Holy oke Hlgh School yy ere the hockey play ers and mermen 1n thelr meets and games Sprmg and the Student Counctl Dance arr1y ed concurrently The dance was held rn the gym Sprmg was m the hearts of all the lucky gtrls who attended Baseball followed on the heels of sprmg We had an excellent team and wrtnessed some real tussles Our boy s copped the X alley League Tltle for the second stra1ght year howey er they were not successful ln defendlng thelr state trtle as they were defeated by Cathedral Hlgh School 3 2 ll U y S l - 'l 'lv Y ' X ' s . .
