J £DlCAT Vj DR. ELLEN D. ELLIS To one who has dedicated her life to both young and old, we. The Class of 1957, dedicate this our yearbook, to DR. ELLEN D. ELLIS. To teach and be taught, to instruct and yet to learn, this has been the basis of this devoted career that started at Bryn Mowr College and led to such places as Constantinople College and the Geneva College for Women. It was with humility and pride that we studied under her and had the opportunity to partake of the many years of knowledge .she has gained from her studies, teaching and writing, throughout the world. Undaunted by age or distance, she has taught the students at Holyoke Junior College and has instilled in them a sense of responsibility toward their country, government and fellowmen. With gratitude we dedicate The LATCH KEY as a symbol of the many heralded thanks due, but left unsaid, by so many throughout the years. 4

Foreword The staff of the 1957 Latch Key has endeavored to produce a material memory of the past two years. The following pages are the result of their efforts. As a unique feature of the yearbook much written material has been omitted in preference to including a greater number of pictures. The staff hopes that such a change can be justified by a more complete picture of a student ' s life at Holyoke Junior College.

DR. GEORGE E. FROST Congratulations to the Class of 1957. Your Alma Mater is proud of your achieve- ments and pleased at the honor which you hove brought to her. it is our hope that you will continue to add stars to her firmament. Today, as always, youth ore engrossed in their own personal problems. Prepara- tion for the future, planning and building for successful personal lives is and should be important to you. It certainly is important to your community, your state, and nation. Sometimes, however, we allow ourselves to be so intensely involved in self that we forget our responsibility to others. Only a happy balance in our sense of responsibility to ourselves and others can bring about the complete satisfaction in life which all of us so eagerly seek. May we hope that you acquire fuller understanding of this principle. Translation of it into action will, I am sure, bring you great personal satisfaction. George E. Frost Director
