HIRTY years ago, the town of Westfield was hiessed with the arrivai of an energetic and amioitions Hnew comer. This was our esteemed pastor, Monsignor Watterson, who today has dis- tinguished himself as one of Vvestfieids outstanding personalities. Coming to a small parish, numhering then hut a handful of par- ishioners, Father found a great task confronting him. With hut two smaii huiidings, he he-:gan this task in earnest. Proceeding to free the parish oi debt and making improvements upon the property, he then revealed his desires for an entire new plant, consisting of Church, schools, and convent. Favored 'hy the support of the ever increasing parishioners, the plans got under way and after two years, the dream Ioecame a reality. It stands today a glorious tribute to a high ideal! In recognition of his outstanding accomplishments, and as a reward for his many years of service to the Church, the Holy Father in 1941 elevated Father Vvatterson to a domestic preiate, with the title of Right Reverend Monsignor. However, it is not his accomplishments aione that have en- deared our pastor to not only his parishioners, hut also to the town and Archdiocese in general. Possessed of a sound judgment and keen sense of humor, Monsignor Vvatterson is respected hy all who know him. It is his splendid personality and convincing way that we, the Seniors, will especially miss, lout we can go forth rejoicing with fond mem- ories of his priestly example. May God hiess you, Monsignor, and shower on you His abundance of graces, thatiyou may continue His work here on earth for many years to come. ,-RAYMOND WALDRON DEBUG E 'ELSE HD L? STGDE3
