TDEEH THEN ND from a seed, it grew into a migtity tree. Thus it is in fulfillment of ttlese prophetic words, that Hoiy Trinity, starting from a mere wooden Church in 1872 steadily increased, and -grew to time migiaty paristi it is today. Comprising five spacious fully equipped build- ings, tile piant stands as a living tribute to a de- voted ideal, ever increasing in size and scope. ' This year, we celebrate the twentieth anniver- sary ,ot time dedication of time present buildings. ,Twenty years of glorious and fruitful service to time town of Vvestfieidt Yes, to time United States of America! Twenty years in which this mod- ern, weii organized parish has functioned, and stiti continues to function, with a remarkable regularity, under tile guidance got an equally re- maricatmte pastor. , l 4 Therefore, in commemoration of ttlese two de- - cades, it is only fitting, that we the Seniors, in ap- preciation tor ati time good that this institution has done for the furttlerirng of tile CHti10IiC icteai, dedicate the 1945 edition of tile Trinitas. HRAYMOND WALDRON EEEEEEEEE 1 HIS EXCELLENCE' The Most Reverend THOMAS JOSEPH WALSH ARCHBISHQP OF NEWARK EEREEREEEEEEREEEEREEREEN VslYE , , WR Q' eawencf BHG UQ TWZEATTEESSQUDN J Q s 3 Y i HIRTY years ago, the town of Westfield was hiessed with the arrivai of an energetic and amioitions Hnew comer. This was our esteemed pastor, Monsignor Watterson, who today has dis- tinguished himself as one of Vvestfieids outstanding personalities. Coming to a small parish, numhering then hut a handful of par- ishioners, Father found a great task confronting him. With hut two smaii huiidings, he he-:gan this task in earnest. Proceeding to free the parish oi debt and making improvements upon the property, he then revealed his desires for an entire new plant, consisting of Church, schools, and convent. Favored 'hy the support of the ever increasing parishioners, the plans got under way and after two years, the dream Ioecame a reality. It stands today a glorious tribute to a high ideal! In recognition of his outstanding accomplishments, and as a reward for his many years of service to the Church, the Holy Father in 1941 elevated Father Vvatterson to a domestic preiate, with the title of Right Reverend Monsignor. However, it is not his accomplishments aione that have en- deared our pastor to not only his parishioners, hut also to the town and Archdiocese in general. Possessed of a sound judgment and keen sense of humor, Monsignor Vvatterson is respected hy all who know him. It is his splendid personality and convincing way that we, the Seniors, will especially miss, lout we can go forth rejoicing with fond mem- ories of his priestly example. May God hiess you, Monsignor, and shower on you His abundance of graces, thatiyou may continue His work here on earth for many years to come. ,-RAYMOND WALDRON DEBUG E 'ELSE HD L? We had looked lorward to this event for many years: the thrill ol' first Fridays. the Senior play, intramural basketball, and last hut not least, initiation. Algebra brought its problems and Latin its verlns, but we man- aged to survive and looked forward to the next year. SOPHOMGRE YEAR The English gave Hitler a taste of what was to come in 1940 and we hecame sophomores. ln many ways considered the most difficult hecause ot Plane HG and Caesar, it did have its lighter moments when we initiated the Freshman and attend the school dances. So ended another year. JUNIOR YEAR The attaclc on Pearl Harbor came in 19-'11 giving us new reason for higher aims: Doolittle's raid on Tolcyo in 1942 spurred us on still further: and at last we were downstairs. The class was now divided. some tackling Cicero and others the typewriter, hut all muttering Non, ma soeurn and Cui, ma soeurf, The prom and class night larought its thrills and the outing its sunloum. Now we were to he Seniors. SENIOR YEAR America was wholly in the War loy 1945. The Marines were in the Solomons, the Air Corps in China, and our one ambition was to get out into the world to help. We realized all the more just what Trinity and these years meant to us. The happy, care-tree days were over, the Communion lnrealctast was our last in- timate meeting and the impressive commencement exercises larought to a close our high school years. -PATRICIA LAING CXQQIB Last Will and Testament Jo AdaITlS ,........
