Grant them such ay strong and fervent faith that they may never deny it nor fear Wo., practice it. Do Thou, 0 Lord, by Thy grace, fortify them against the contagion of bad example that, being preserved from sin and serving Thee faithfully, they may be always ready to meet death when and where it may occur. Most Sacred Heart of Jesus, mindful of Your most Precious Blood and of the Five Sacred Wounds, we beg You to inspire them with a sincere sor- row for sin and grant them pardon. 0 Mother of Perpetual Help' in honor of your seven sorrows and the joyful sorrowful and glorious mysteries of your most holy and powerful Ro- sary, we beg you, as the Queen of Peace and of Heaven and Earth, to protect and intercede for our sons and to be by their side in battle. lf it is God's holy will please bring them home soon, safe and sound, to their loved ones. Should they be called upon to make the supreme sacrifice, obtain for them from your Divine Son, the grace of a holy and happy death. St. Joseph Patron of the Universal Church, pray for them. 0 powerful and immortal God, have compassion upon us miserable sin- ners and upon the whole world. With bitter tears of repentance we invoke you to end all wars and grant us peace in the sacred name of the Holy Family. Constantly influencing us along the path of righteousness, and augmenting this influence by flawless example, directing our minds through the difficult and at times wearisome channel of learning, impartially bestowing sympathy andladvice, tried and true from long years of experience, she is indeed a cap- tain of the ship of youth, a director in the first scene of our life, the school- room scene, a general in the army of God. -A. CAGNASSOLA The Sodality O its founder, our dear Sister Grace, we owe all the gifts bestowed on us, the Knights and Ladies of the Blessed Sacrament of the Sodality. Eight long years have elapsed and the sodality still exists, boasting of popularity among the boys and girls in the school. It not only keeps up our spirits and morales, but also shoulders us with a certain responsibility. The benefits of this association permit us to receive Communion on the first Friday of each month. Therefore we wish to thank Sister Grace for founding it and we hope that the forthcoming Seniors will honor and respect it, just as we have tried to do for the past four years. -MARY EILEEN CAULFIELD SUCCESS lf you think you are beaten, you are, lf you think you can't fall, you don't, LITTLE BY LITTLE Little by little high school goes by, Short if you sing through it, long if you sigh, lt flies so quickly-an hour, a day, Gone with the years that vanish away. Bit by bit the diploma is won, Four years of study and work are done! Little by little the future grows clear, Little by little our diploma' comes near, Slowly but surely the days pass out, As we put our studies to rout, All the little things we know, lnto our future vocation will go. -lVER PETERSEN, J R. THE LI NE When a-singin' loud the praises Of football players fine: Don't be forgettin' real stars, The fighters on the line. They're a-Scrapin' every minute, An' diggin' in the grime, Them badly bruisin' sons of guns, The he-men of the line. For the center snaps the pigskin Like a bullet everytime, So the backs can go a-running, But not without the line. -JOSEPH SMITH lf you desire to win, but think you can't It is practically certain you won't Out in the world you will find, Success depends on your state of mind. -ivER PETERSEN, JR. YOUR JOB No matter where you are working-in office or shop No matter how far you are from the top When your high school days are over the hill, Don't ever disgrace the job you fill, For'however little your job may appear, It is just as important as some little gear, Your country needs you-don't think it does not, So try hard to give it whatever you've got. -ivER PETERSEN, JR. THE DAY OF VICTORY When the day of victory at length is here, And the enemy's tide is finally turned, Let us not think of the horrors passed, Men killed, villages burned. Let us remember that they are men, Created by God, far above, Without thought of race or country Sharing in His infinite love. -IVER J. PETERSEN, JR. X 6 'V'Z N5 - i. zz .5 W .xX,, . NICK FRANICOLA HE Class of 42 is very happy to have the pleasure of having a new teacher, coach, and physical instructor in Mr. Franicola. Mr. Franicola came to us in the beginning of March. We never thought we would find a teacher so well liked as our new asset to the faculty. Coach , as he is called by the boys, is still in Seton Hall College,' and will graduate in June. We are sure that Trinity is going to go far in the field of sports, with the assistance of Mr. Franicola, who is very well Q experienced in that line. , l Although we don't know you very long Coach , we feel that we have acquired a good friend, and feel sure that you will accomplish much L in the future within the doors of Holy Trinity. -DANIEL KNIER 58 HE football year of i942 closed with great success for Holy Trinity in ending the sea- son with four wins, one loss, and a tie score. After starting with a hard fought tie with Seton Hall Prep, they came back to trim St. Bernards and Queen of Peace. Then there came Good Counsel, who defeated our boys by a small margin of one point. After that de- feat, our team came back with true style by running over Mt. Loretto and St. Rose. Much of the credit for this great season must go to Mr, Ford, our former coach who worked hard with his team, and to Dr. Hol- stein who worked equally hard on our injured boys, always having them ready for their next game. But we must not forget Monsignor Watterson who supplied the buses and the players who made up the team. -GEORGE MERLO BAL! MR. WILLIAM J. FORD E, the Seniors of i942, will regret to leave you after these many years, but we do know that whatever you taught us will always be in our minds. Aside from teaching Biology, 'History and Democracy, you were our physical director and head football and basketball coach. In this past year you have led our football team to a state title, and you were very successful in basketball, for you seem to have that ability of putting the fighting spirit into our boys. Now that we are about to leave the portals of Trinity, we are shocked to hear that you have decided to leave Trinity yourself so that you can do your part for your country. At this time we all wish to express our best wishes to you for the future, and hope that it will be as successful as your stay in Trinity. -GEORGE MERLO if S the Trrnnty cagers took to the court thus year they were faced wlth the same arduous task as were encountered in previous years Havlng but a small group of untalented boys and only three experienced Iettermen Coach Bull Ford set to work to produce a wlnnlng combine Scheduling teams of the same rank and status was only one duffnculty because of the scarcuty of such qulntets The duty was fulfllled although it was necessary to reach Into a higher group to obtain encoun- ters Wlnnung the fnrst two games we then faced our tough- est competltuon and yneld four games nn successnon. The finale of the season brought two vlctornes and a heart-break- :ng defeat In the State tournament We wlsh to express our suncerest gratitude and appreclatnon to our Coach and con- fidently hope he wall remember hns last basketball team at Holy Trlnlty ALWIN SlEVERS SKE7' 2 I J 'IN as :fry-3-ayg W, .
