M1 PN The English Class . . .The Daily lnculcating the Basic Groundwork for Creative Expression Nouns, verbs, appositives, split infinitives and the entire realm of grammatical terms laboriously analyzed during the student's four years of high school are only a minute part of the vast range of material covered in his English class. It is here primarily that the student strives to acquire that ability to communicate his knowledge and his constructive contribution to a swiftly moving world. For this important skill in expressing his ideas in writing and in speaking, it is the student's daily task to build a working vocabulary, to study thoroughly the structure of the sentence, the paragraph, and the theme, and to acquire the habit of spelling correctly consistently. Progress is measured through his improvements in the regularly assigned compositions and planned speeches. To further personal initia- tive and progress the English department conducts the annual declamation, elocution, oratory and essay contests. Page 26 Et is is 5 - si f X A3322 wig Workshop of
