I will ra se me up a faithful pr est who hall do accord ng to my heart nd my soul and l will build h m a faithful house I K ngs Born on February 28 IS67 in the town of Miroslaw of the d ocese of Segny Poland Father Sztuczko was the seventh child of Anthony Sztuczko the organist of the parish and his wife Frances As a fifteen year old boy with only elementary school training he came from Poland to Notre Dame He was ordained priest July I6 l89l by the Most Reverend J S Foley Bishop of Detroit The first two years of his priestly life he worked at St Hedwig s Church South Bend Indiana assisting Father Czyzewski At the request of the Apostolic Delegate he was transferred to Holy Trinity Parish in l893 and became its first pastor Those of his flock and his acquaintance know that the founder and first pastor of Holy Trinity Parish was a great founder and a good pastor that he was a man of God whose thoughts and acts were always with and for his people Although they need not the very stones cry out the stones of the Church and rectory the grammar school and convent and crying out par ticularly to us the high school and Brothers residence reminding us of our debt to Father Sztuczko That debt is very great Page 7 ' i ' I , 5 I a , ' i ' , , , I i , Il, 361 , , ' ' I ' I ' Indiana, with the intention of joining the Congregation of Holy Cross.
