White BASKETBALL Graduation last year was a heavy blow to basketball fans at Holy Trinity who were looking forward to a successe ful l93B-l939 season. Bill Hunter, cap- tain, was the only returning varsity player and most of the candidates were under classmen. Nevertheless, the season was a suc- cess, not as measured by the number of victories against defeats but rather by team spirit and determination and by a really remarkable improvement as the season progressed. A large schedule of twenty-six games was played which included such top- notch teams as St. Mary's of Ruther- ford and St. Ioseph's of West New York The highlight of the season was our upset of the strong Sacred Heart team of Elizabeth after having lost to them previously by twenty-two points. Catherine Cosgriff Shirley Day Eileen Smith Mary Fisher Doris Ierlinski Maree Nolden lane Nolan Emily Grien Patricia Gately Alfred Haynes Iohn Murphy Francis Brzozoski Edward Walsh Raymond I-lelble Matthew Byrnes Frederick Stein EENCING TEAM The third session of the Trinity Fencing Team began in October 1938, with the election of a new captain, Helen Murphy, and a triumph over Montclair State Teachers College. The team suffered its first defeat in two years of competition to Lincoln High of lersey City, but kept its usual high standard loy defeating all other opponents. The fencers seem to be following in the footsteps of their coach, Miss Madeline Dalton, who was Metropolitan Champion and National lunior Cham- pion in l937, fourth ranking woman fencer in the nation in l937 and l938, and Intercollegiate Champion in 1935. On April 25, l939, Miss Dalton qualified for the National Championship Competition, which is to be held this lune in California. - Good luck, Miss Dalton! Your team is rooting for you! Q 5, RIDING CLUB The riding club is a new attraction at Trinity this year. Twice weekly the students are taken to the Rockingham Rid- ing Academy to enjoy a day in the open.
