- nunuanawnu-w11 ii: sux li 11 lil ll 11 Nia 1 -l - -ll H III ii U11 E. i Tal ll ii C Fulford Jr Diane B 1 a c k CAgnes hormanj Iickolos Rossi CSh1r1ey YoungD Clayton Gatewood Ckathleen Lawlerb Nith the pioneering days over Sister Cor Marie was replaced by Sister M Angels who served as principal for two years, and then, after an absence of a number of years, returned to sponsor the next to last graduation class from Holy Trinity Honors came to Trinity almost from its inception when Kenneth Lawrence '32 won third place in the C S 1 C Oratorical Contest The following year, first place in this contest was won by Charles Chesire, in 193A Louise Morgan received this award and in 1935 first place was won by Julian Pleasants '36 Trinity tradition was continued when Jack Piedmont gained second place in the 1936 Oratoricals In the early days the Sisters lived in the Parish House but later on they moved into their convent which was b u 1 1 t directly opposite the school. October 3, 1928 was the day they entered their new home, a n d it was on the twentieth of March in the following year that Holy Mass was of- fered for the first time in the convent chapel. In all this time the school was growing--in size, in enrollment, and in faculty. To the original four classrooms and auditorium an addition of two classrooms and a cafeteria were soon made. The building of the gym seems to mark the start of an active Trinity in the field of sports. Almost from the beginning, the school has been able to boast of excellent basketball fives and of late years the girls, the Trini- dettes have entered into the competition with increasing success Football history was made in the early forties when Trinity played in Class C competition During these years the names of Dick Wills A3 Leo Flaherty 'h2 and John Bashara '42 were Trinity Jatchwords The championship team which finally brought home first honors in football in 1942 were Gus Russo Eddie Ether d g Randolph query, Joe Venuto, Charlie W h e a t S Casey Joe Grey B Versprille Bill Mayo, Wendell M111 e r, George Nood house Bobby Ellis Willie V1rg1l1 Arnold, Anthony harrell Joe Council, Jersey Yatterson, John Boogades, Bill A rphy, and Jerry Johnston In Class C basketball competition, Sammy Miller 'h2 and Martin Kehoe 'A3 were outstanding One of the first girls to receive praise on her basketball ability was Barbara Kaufman 'A3 The Class C basketball championship in the Tidewater area was won in 1945 with B Bullock, G Russo, S Casey, J Fitz Patrick, W Virgili, F Carrigan, W Jenkins, J Harrell C Hilmoth E Eth eridge, B Versprille L Sallacup in the line up The closing years of Trinity have seen the continuance of its outstand ing athletic reputation on the hardwood Trinity boys brought home the Cath s n Q u I ' 0 9 i e, . l Dick Wills, Jack Hickman, Rocco Russo, Louis Hiers, Jake Versprille, Eugene V ' 0 I ' T, . . . , . . . - .
