Twenty one years ago a young boy stood before a group of adm1r1ng frlends and relatlves and read an es ay h1 es ay as a part of the comnencement ex erc1ses of h1s chool To the casual observer there was nothlng unu ual about such an event but 1D retrospect lt has become s1gn1f1cant The year was 1930 the school was holy Tr1n1ty hlgh School and the young boy was Arthur hath ews one of 1ts flrst slx graduates All were lntent as he read of the pro gres of Cathollc educatlon 1n V1rg1n1a It was h1s clo 1ng sentence how ever that bore the we1ght of prophecy He sald 'The value of Cathollc edu catlon 1S becomlng so well known that lt lS only a matter of a few years when a Catho11c central h1gh school w1ll be the current due t1on of Cathollcs 1n Norfolk and the surround1ng terr1tory ' Those 'few years' have lengthened out the f1r t grade at holy Tr1n1ty but th1S year of 1950 marks the twenty f1rst annlversary of th t f1TSt graduatlon and the last graduatlon from the school A schoo1boy's prophecy has come to pass On September A 193A the S1sters of the holy Cross opened the grade school at Holy Tr1n1ty 1D what was then a real mlsslon par1sh The Rev Rob ert B Kealey had but recently been appo1nted pastor and h1s needs were great However w1th the forslght born of God he saw the 1mmed1ate need for a school and 1n splte of great dlfflcultles made provlslons for one However as the number of chlldren reglsterlng for school grew so too grew the need for more teachers and more classes In 1927 Slster Cor Marla was ass1gned as pr1nc1 pal of the newly establlshed hlzh school whlch boasted of a freshman and a sophomore class w1th a total enrollment of thlrty pup11s The followlng year a new group of freshmen boosted the number of cla ses to three and w1th the beglnnlng of the school year of 1929 Holy Tr1n1ty was a full fledged four year h1zh school whlch would 1D a very br1ef space of tlme meet the scholastlc requ1rements of the State Department of Educatlon On June 12, 1930 dlplomas - , 4 . . .
