Coaching . . . Practice . . . Results Track came to life as a major sport at Menard in 1969. After years of diligent struggle, the hard work paid off in thrill victories at meet after meet. Almost every member scored points at some time duringxthe season. At the Oakdale track meet, Menard finished third place overall, scoring 70V2 points-the highest total in memory for an Eagle team. That meet re- sulted with six MHS first place finishes along with twelve second place awards. J. D. Melton was the representative of the un- tiring runners who worked to bring pride to Menard. He reached his peak in the District 3AA meet in Leesville, running the half-mile in the excellent time of 2:05. He received the Coachis Award, the highest honor given to a Menardian trackman, for his great efforts. Also placing in the District meet was Mike Blank, winning second in the javelin with a 179'8 throw. He then went to compete in the Class AA Regional Meet. Through the coaching of Mr. Johnny Jeans, other team members became standouts.
