.Arun 1 'V' 1 Vx -'Ds .-ff' it The late Pope Pius XII speaking of ethical principles in sports penetrates the heart of the matter in the following words: It is not the strength of one's muscles or the quick reflexes or the victories easily attained that constitute the attractiveness of sport. It is rather the assm-ed domain over one's faculties. There are, among others, loyalties that exclude subterfugesg obedience to the wise commands of the director of the teamg the spirit of self-renunciation where one is to fade into the background in order that the interests of the team may thereby be furtheredg fidelity to obligations undertakeng modesty in victory, serenity in adverse fortune. The crowds in the stadia deplore the fact when the teams in a contest do not play with their heartsg because in general whenever there is a question of human activity the point of arrival must always be the psychicg in other words, spirit must predominate over technique. This is the spirit with which Coach Richard Clark sparks his teams. This same spirit makes sports at Holy Redeemer a builder of men. X, N
