YBZTQ 'ufifwae w 1 . .xr q -1 i lt's a brand new day, everything is fine though it may be gray, I want you to know that the sun's gonna shine, and out of that sky, piercing every cloud, is our God on high. There will be a new heart for every man, like the flowers that come in early spring, for every life there is a plan, no matter what autumn breezes bring. So put away care, let freedom be yours joy is everywhere, joy is everywhere let freedom ring, alleluia now, everybody sing let our voices shout to a mighty king. The heavens declare, in a way so grand, if the skies are fair or windy or gray, it's the work of his handg and down on the ground, with never a word, such a mighty sound. And the morning will see the strolling sun, as he happily rises o'er the land, a messenger on his daily run, bringing news of a father's guiding hand. K' 1. Word from above gives joy to my heart and its light to my eyes his riches are fine, outlasting all days till the end of time. Though I walk in the path of evil ways and my thoughts are a presence causing pain there is always the path of future days that follow the time of wind and rain. S'o put away care, let freedom be yours joy is everywhere, joy is everywhere. Here should be an academic community with the atmosphere of truth and reason, where there is room for all viewpoints and support for human dignity and values: a place where the rights of all are respected. Here should be the home of the inquiring mind, and whatever the difference of age, of religion, culture, race, and nation- ality, here should be the place where Christian love and civility govern the conversation, the interest and the outcome. Here should be the House of the Intellect, but just as well, the house of love and civility and lively discussion in the cause of truth which should unite us all in its quest and in its promise. CALIF DAVID MAITERI BEST WISHES to SENIORS from the CLASS OF 1972 PICETTI ENTERPRISES ALAIVIEDA, CALIFORNIA 521-9737 Lawrence Pioetti - Building Contractor Compliments ot SIERRA ELECTRONICS EDITOR'S PAGE On behalf of the Excalibur staff I would like to take this opportunity to thank those who, without necessarily taking an active part in the publica- tion of the yearbook, have been instrumental in its production. Among these are: Sr. Baptista, whose experience was invaluable. The Administration, particularly Sr. Ambrose and Sr. Christina Maria for their cooperation. Staff members, Mrs. Brown, Mrs. Farris and Mrs. Gates for their interest and aid. Carol Corrigan and the Senate, for their support in our time of need. The Class of 1970, whose words of encouragement saw us through many a crisis. Fr. Carr, for his ever-ready words of encouragement. My mother, for tolerating the clutter and the unusual time schedules. Special thanks to: Kathy Costello, for the excellent work she did in the organization and completion aof the Senior section. Linda Maslonkowski, for assuming the thankless job of layout editor. Without her dedication and persistence there would not have been an Excalibur 1970. Many thanks to her and to her family from all of us at CHN. Gratefully, CAROL GATES Editor A WORD TO NEXT YEAR'S EDITOR As everyone will tell you, yours is a thankless job. But don't be discouraged. When you are bogged down by financial matters, never knowing if you'll be able to pay your billsg or when you realize the night before the deadline that you have completed only 30 pages and you need 335 or when you're typing until 2 or 3 A.M. the morning of your deadline, keep this rule of thumb in mind. Always think ahead to your finished product. The most gratifying moment you will experience is that in which you see your first pages in print. Another good rule to remember is that no matter how hard you try, you will never be able to please everyone. Merely do the best you can. I wish you all the luck in the world and l hope to see your book. CG 131 ACKNOWLEDGEMENTS Sr. Francesca Cabrini for her aid and encouragement. Sr. Linda Orrick for her patience and aid. Steve Woodall and Mike Brice of Keith Cole Photography for their help and excellent photography. Bill Austin of Wheelwright Lithographing Co. for his patience, encouragement and prompt service. Tom Walters for his excellent photography appearing on the following pages: 24, 25, 35, 43, 48, 49, 55, 64, 69, 71, 72, 75, 77, 117, 118, 119, 123, 124, 125, 127, 129. A special thanks to Dave Slater, whose photographs appear on the cover and on pages 4 and 5.
