O Mary Ann Colapietro gave a splendid performance in her Senior Recital. x .-. 5 Julie Meirstin, Cheryl Fager, and Lesleigh Fazzio delighted their guests when they performed for their Junior Certificates in Music. 56 On May 17, Mary Ann Colapie- tro gave her Senior piano recital. The program consisted of selections representative of the various his- torical periods from Handel to Falla. Among her selections were: Concerto in G Minor Mendelssohn Jeux d'Eau Ronel Spanish Dance No. 1 Falla Harmonious Blacksmith Handel Fantasie Impromptu Chopin The Mendelssohn's Concerto was accompanied by the Holy Names High School Orchestra. Mary Ann was assisted by her sister Anna Ma- rie, and Lesleigh Fazzio who played a Waldi Concerto for two cellos.

The tremendous response by the girls showed ready leadership and school spirit within our Student Body. This reaction triggered a better under- standing of the workings of democratic government and reminded everyone that democracy is a privilege that must be used in order to make it work. The elections brought in new leadership to some class and Student Body officesg but, even more important, it evidenced an active participation in student government. ' WMM Peggy Fleitz was the representative of the Oakland Chapter of the Red Cross at the state-wide conference held in Sacramento at the El Dor- ado Hotel. As officers for the new Literary Magazine, these girls: Mary Murphy, poetry editorg Mary Rosso, prose editorg and jane Keller, editor-in-chief, Cabsent was Kit O'Malley, business managerjg spend a great deal of extra time editing our crea- tive works, Their frequent consultations with Mr. Lawrence Hart help to eliminate any trite additions and ensure excellent quality. These five Seniors, Sue Tuohy, Peggy Pedemont, Marty Slattery, Claire Toomey, and Marianne Mc- Daniel, represented Holy Names as delegates from Ethiopia at the University of California on February 28 and 29. Sally Slyngstad, Maura Toomey, and Marianne McDaniel were the three con- testants from Holy Names for the Lions Club Speech Contest. The topic was: Moral Integrity-Imperative for Sur- vival. Sally represented our school in later competition. Father Francis Maurovich presents to Ann Golden her scholarship to the Catholic college of her choice, which she earned by winning the Catholic Voice Essay Contest.
