May the virtues of charityand serenity which were so gloriously exemplified in you be reflected in us, that bearing the peace of God in our hearts, we may influence the world to a closer imitation of your Son. My dear Girls: Your Manakata-Years together need not end with your commence ment night in May. The consoling doctrine of the Mystical Body teaches us that we are one in Christ. That you may keep this always in mind and heart I recommend to you this beautiful and allfembracing prayer to be said after fervent and frequent Holy Communions. O Jesus. I pray Thee today for all who are mine, all whom Thou hast given me to love and care for. May my Communion be their safeguard and their growth in grace today. , May it be light, strength, and consolation to Our Holy Father, to our Bishop, to all priests, and to all who are striving to win souls for Thee. May it flow through the Church like the river of life and may its founts be the healing of nations. May it How to every one outside the Church, to all my relatives and friends, to the poor heathen beyond the reach of sacramental grace. Oh, Heart of jesus, hear my prayer! It has more than the eflicacy of a-saint's prayeratoday. It is Thine own for Thou art mine. Wherever there is temptation to be overcome, innocence to be guarded, death to be met by air, sea, or land, final perseverance to be assured, the good to be supported, the weak to be strength' ened, the fallen to be raised, the sad to be comforted, there let the fruit of my Holy Communion be. Amen. Sister Mary joan, Superior FACULTY To you, Sister Mary Joan, Superior, and to the entire faculty we wish to express our gratitude for your untiring devotion and assistance given us during our years at Holy Names. X Vol. Ill HOLY NAMES ACADEMY, SPOKANE Yeor 1945-1946 Sport Flashes of '45 and '46 DEDICATION Our volleyball season this year is being dedicated to our patron, St. joseph. We are asking his inter' cession to make all of our games, and especially our Night Game, success' ful. Each time you pray, put in a word to St. joseph about our intenf tion, asking him to bless it. 1945 SPORTS PARADE The Academy's on parade! The Senior Zephyrs appear tirst carrying a huge banner of maroon and white on which is written Animo et Fidef' The sturdy, valiant Knights march into sight displaying another banner decked with the words Keep Trothf' Then each Knight makes way for the gay Sophomore Gypsies, who dance into view singing, On- ward ever, backward never. The parade is nearing the end when the Freshmen Mariners enter upon the scene clad in their smart royal blue uniforms with cocky sailor hats perched over one eye. Each class has passed and the parade is over, thus marking the beginning of a great year for Holy Names. KNIGHTS CLAIM FIRST PLACE AT ROUND ROBIN Our volleyball season got off to a iine start with our annual Round Robin. All of the teams were a litt-le nervous despite encounters last year but as each warmed up the playing improved and the afternoon terminated with the exciting victory of the junior Knights. VOLLEYBALL NIGHT GAME The Cup Game played by the juniors and the Sophomores was a contest of equal skill for each team had excellent spikers and servers. The ending was uncertain until the final score was announced. The Sophof mores led by a slight margin most of the game, but in the last few minutes when the score was 2lf2I, the juniors suddenly pulled ahead and won the game 31f28. This winning gave the Knights the cup and the record of an undefeated season. TRI-A HAYRIDE On January 2, twenty carefree girls set out for Burley's Stables. When they arrived at their destinaf tion, they happily stepped off the bus and into a covered wagon filled with hay. In spite of the rainy weather, the girls had a merry time, until the wagon finally stopped, beforega restaurant! After eating chili and ice cream, they clambered back into the wagon again, and were soon again at Burley's, thus ending their evening of fun and gaiety. QDGIZ. 93 QQ. .. yi if if llf Sfnllff The RDI I NEW CAMERA AND CASE Sister Ivlarita joan has at last ob' tained our longflookedffor movingf picture camera, complete in a beautie ful leather case. You'll soon see the camera in action when the basketf ball season starts. BASKETBALL NIGHT GAME The Cup Game, played between the Seniors and juniors, ended in an upset. The Knights led all of the way until the third quarter when the Zephyrs began to gain. By the end of the game the score was 2Of2O and it was necessary to play an extra five minutes. This held the spec' tators breathless and the clock seemed to crawl from minute to minute. Finally the whistle blew and the game ended in a victory for the Senior Zephyrs, 26f24. BOWLING There is something new around Holy Names this year in the way of sports. It is bowling and it was added to the list of sports at the request of the girls themselves. Bowling is really much easier than is thought. The balls aren't as heavy as they look, and the pins just topple over!once hit! So why not try it, girls? It's lots of fun, and think of those points! HIKING The air is crisp and clear and just right for the more ambitious of us to take a nice brisk walk through the woods. Besides, we can earn those athletic points merely by getting a leader, organizing the hike, and ref porting this data to the manager. N Q U! Xwxw A X 5 x V NL QURW 'Q Trl-A-magic key to the world of sports. The Trl-A girl ls dls- tinguished by her good sports- manship and loyalty to school principles. Basketball, volley- ball, hiking, and skating are only a few of the many sports enloyed by these athletic girls. On the occasions of the night volleyball game ,ns and the night basketball game, many had an opportunity to witness the admirable teamwork and sklll with which the Trl-A glrls handled the ball. A motion plcture camera purchased by Tri-A recorded the games. The Christmas season found the Tri-A members and their officers out carolling. A few days after New Year's Day, these same girls enloyed a hay ride party. Tri-Angles, our news sheet, has kept not only ourselves well informed about school events, but it has also served as a splendid link with former Trl-A members. 1 T T 'Q 1 1 .5 Y S Trl-Angles sh busy at wo writing up TI Tri-A Breakfc and TI Tri-A Pla The M4 Tea Port' its 5 4 5 N. . h K .49 0 69 xx h ofx J so x 'V s-W ur Knights!
