CLASS PROPHECY f' ! Good afternoon ladies! lt's Maxwell house toffee time and we bring you those two wandering re- porters with the news you have been waiting for. It is a beautiful day, isn't it, ladies? Yes, a beautiful, hot day in July, l954, and we've been busy finding the news you want. We've had some real luck and a few good scoops. Yesterday we were privileged to visit with Aileen Boutin. You will remember her as the girl who used to collect phono- graph records. Well, she is still listening to her Master-son's voice . . . l ! With her that afternoon we were lucky enough to Rnd Marian Buckley, who, contrary to her previous Buckley disposition, has become Moody of late, but in spite of the fa ct, she is a Budding beauty. Marian informed us that the better half the Buckley's - Alice, and her old school chums, Arlene Manning and Mary Po- tesky, have just witnessed the opening of their new Night Spot, the Dishin' Mary - Arlene import- ed from Hillyard as head cashier, Mary Gallagher. The customers say that Mary is really an even Steven business woman. ln prospects of catching some of our old friends there, we hustled over and we were fortunate enough to see such famous characters there as Katherine Groo, who has recently risen to the heights of glory by perfecting a new spaghetti- quite an art for Kathy! ! Sitting across from her we were not too surprised to find Patt Green - now a charming little housewife. She has recently had her hair Bobbed - Rally she has . . . Suddenly our attention was divefted by a fanfare announcing the floor show. Much to our surprise we recognized the Master of Ceremonies as Frances Mauro, whose loud, jovial voice introducedfa sensational feat. lt seemed that Eileen Medved and Helen Milla were diving 500 feet through the air into a damp rag. We stood watching, amazed when a terrible dis- aster occurred. After thorough examination by Chief Bridget Sherlock Holmes and her detectives, Marian Temple, Julia Falsetto and Phyllis Dashiell, it was revealed that virtuoso Betty Jane Johnson, in a tit of jealousy, had wrung out the rag because her violin tour was cancelled in favor of the act. As soon as the excitement died down, who should come in the door but Mary Lou Kimmel, who was just discharged from the House of David Baseball team. Following close behind her came Eva Malek, Beth Dirkes, Jean Kalez and Ramona Stengar, in very high spirits for they had just won a basketball game. They are members of Hoy's Hotball Basketball team - it seems that Manager Hoy, in the interest of her players, took to chopping off the opponents' thumbs when they reached too eagerly for the ball. The game was a real thriller, the floor was so slippery they could hardly keep on their feet. The gym owner, Eva Conrad, had purchased the wax from that super sales woman Blanche Kaufman of the Wilcox Wax Company - for every ten cans she sells, Blanche receives a Blue Jay. A A large bus rumbled by the door and we glanced up to see a familiar face at the wheel, it was Ann Orndorff- she says she would rather drive a Buzz than Walker way around town. Seated directly behind her were Nancy Smith and Frances Delaney. Frances has recently been employed by the Thompson's Rug Cleaners as a thumper. Who should be sitting on the back bumper but Mary B. Owens, who, incidentally, is now a famous Lion Tamer. No doubt you have heard of Charlie the Lion, well, she has tamed him and has he settled down! Having turned back to our table, we were surprised to hear a singing paper girl. Anxious to see the latest news we called her over to find that it was Jenny Rotunno bringing in the latest scoops written by that ace reporter, Colleen Johansen, working now for Editor Rosemary Wieman's paper, The Bugle Call Rag. The blazing red headlines revealed that a Scientist, namely Rosanne O'Brien, has gone completely mad trying to find a substitute for people. lncidentally, she found it- you'd go mad, too. After being 'diagnosed by Dr. Ann Gillespy of the Davenport hospital, she has been put under the able care of Nurses Devlin, Wynne, Dube, Cutz, and the patient's loving sister, Lorainne. We feel that she is well on her way. V Glancing through the theatre ads we see featured there the Golwen Follies of l954, starring that ballet queen, Helen Dillon. The name of the show is Pars and Starters, known in continental France as Stars and More Stars. She is being presented at the Morphium Theatre under the able man- agement of Patricia Courser, and when there is only one thing to be done - she does it.
