Helping mother at home really did come in handy. A triduum in honor of Mary immaculate C011- ducted by Father Matthew Meighan gave Nam- ers a chance to prepare for Mary's great feast. GONE A-GATHERING Christmas greens tor an Advent wreath and a chance to enioy the snow is senior Marilyn Kucxynski. Seniors tried everything under the sun to make the ad drive for the Namer Yearbook a success--and it surely wasl 'Twas the eighth day before Christmas, and all through the school, you could hear HN's great band presenting their first Christmas concert in their special harmonious fashion. Merry Christmas , exclaimed Nam- ers as they left school on the twentieth for vacation. Queen Gloria Giuliani and Princess Gerri Novak reigned at the Christmas Ball in HN's very own winter wonderland palace. ,444 faoulafuy edema tk Slate WHOOPSI We just came back to school and semester exams already! Gruelling tests grilled Namers, but a welcome oasis was retreat. From Jan. 28-30, complete silence lalmosti reigned. Father Edward Calkins, OSM, captured our interest, but Christ really conquered at General Mass and Holy Communion on the last day. But the spell of sweet silence was shat- tered when February broke in . . . T Finance an 269 Ddyd l HN ARTISTS competed in the Catholic Book Week Poster Contest and were TV stars in Inside Catholic SchooIs l 1 Namer Scholastic, Holy Name's chap- Q ter of the National Honor Society, held ' the induction of iunior and senior charter members on the sixth. , We celebrated Monsignor's birthday. Journalists moved to their brand new room. Our Lady's Sodality gave the year's first dance, Heartbeat , Lent opened with Stations on Friday and sacrifice every day.

FALLING LEAVES-RISING ACTIVITY We Wooded dw 7cmez'aEz6dp :Jada ffatmna lawn, Snow ?lwvzde4, Sid! 7Zauonlez OFF TO A GOOD START on the first day of November, iunior and senior iournalists attended a workshop sponsored by the Diocesan Press Association at Benedictine. lucky senior Mary Ann Roda wrote an essay titled How ls Chamber Music an lnternational l.anguage? and won first place competing with students of all Cleveland high schools. lt was a grand day for singing as the Glee Club presented a concert in honor of St. Cecilia. Up went the thermometer till finally Namers reached their goal selling chances for the parish bazaar-and got a day offl Yea! Basketball season opened on Nov. 27. Ohl!! how we tried. Winning isn't everything-and we still had so much to be thankful for on the next day, Thanksgiving. Cub reporters got into the professional swing and attended the DSPA Writers' Tournament at Benedictine. SWEET NOTES and ioyous notes flowed freely at the Band's lint Christmas Concert. Popping questions at telephone operator and doctor, Namers iotted notes and planned tomorrows. The Catholic Universe Bulletin Drive sparked spring fever sufferers' spirit of competition and apostolic labors with a rally, homeroom pep talks, and a quarter commission for each subscription. But it was spring . . . and while English classes strove mightily to write readable poetry, Lent ended with the ever-glorious Easter Sunday and spring vacation. at 74 wwf 26044009 Special Suunto MAY IS THE SPECIAL MONTH of social whirl for all Namers. Awards Day put in the spotlight all Namers who deserved praise for doing well in studies, service clubs, athletics, and other fields of school activity. Seniors undertook the great task of exams before underclassmen, so they would have time to practice for that out- standing day in their lives. The most fitting event of all was May crowning. Marieann Berg, president of Our Lady's Sodality, crowned the Virgin in Holy Name Church. Seniors looked so ' distinguished dressed ln lhelr Caps and IT IS-or isn'I it? wonders Carol Mencini as she applies the gowns! standard test for rain. The annual senior breakfast was served in the cafeteria. Oh! How grown up they all looked in their best clothes. Picnic time! What a thrill it was riding down-hill on the roller coasterl Boat riders lust breezed through the wind and sunshine. After all the rides, famished Namers devoured their sandwiches. After some more fun and frolic, Namers sleepily got on the buses and headed for home. Seniors enioyed a special picnic, this time without rides-but with lots of food. The water was cold, but some, daring and courageous, lust dived in .... As a farewell to the seniors, the iuniors gave a lovely dinner-dance. The luscious dinner was held in the cafeteria.
