Read the yearbook sympathetically, and you will sense HN's oneness in everything: her strong and loyal spiritg the training oi everyone's abilities g activities and classes geared to prepare each student to louild his adult lite on solid Chris- tian principles. And most typical, perhaps. ot Holy Name, you'll notice the prevailing spirit ot real faith, a faith which will not be laid aside on Graduation Day, lout which will al- ways be nourished, to characterize the typical Namer as his most priceless heritage. Besides their regular duties, the Sisters al- ways have a smile or extra bit of advice for those in need, and are ready to share our sor- rows and joys and keep our secrets. Composing one of the most experienced statts in the city, HN's Sisters are understanding guides, wise with the wisdom ot the Spirit, who never tail to encourage us, scold us, teach us, love us and most important, pray for usl Although their day is long and hard, they al- ways iind time to laugh at our jokes or smile at our enthusiasms. A shining example of virtue and cheeriulness are Little Davids Sisters. tudents as well as Sisters eagerly await the construction of the new HN convent which will replace the familiar convent originally built as a farm house. Pic- tured below is the architect's plan tor the new home to be built tor the 29 high school Sisters. Because ot steel shortage it cannot be said when the work will be- gin, although Monsignor McDonough hopes to start construction in luly. 1 : u5.JNT:5 l f' 'ff' SX 0 .. lf' n-. -' X 1 . JM, Wm .JL1le1f'ifage: Because the war-shadowe d years ahead will surely advance more and more serious p r o b l e m s to thinking Christians, development of a sense of Christian responsibility is an important factor in '52 scholastic training. Learning to uphold their faith and their ideals, to suffer for their princi- ples, and to win others to their stand- ards is the job awaiting leaders of tomorrow. Hnd the student learns early at Holy Name that he can't give what he hasn't got. He must be thoroughly Christian himself before he can restore the world to Christ. Debates, discussions, reports, and re- search work, designed to teach the stu- dent to think, and think straight, have a definite part in the everyday scholas- tic program. Even those classes which prepare us directly for future jobs, vocations, a n d careers, are seen from a Christian viewoint and teach the adults of tomor- row to put first things first. THE REALM OF GOOD BOOKS LIES CLOSE SELF-EXPRESSION is synonymous with English classes at Holy Name. There, dis- likes and likes can be expressed openly, and opinions are exchanged. Talks over teen-age problems teach students to correct distorted views on pre- judice and to realize that Christ-like thinking is the best thinking. Until the student is given adeguate help which trains hirn to discern and evalu- ate, he runs the risk of being confused by a World deluged with secular ideals. Qnce given the principles by which he may judge wisely, he will be better eguipped for later life as Well as for his today. Above: luniors dramatize Nl-lorne on the Range. As We said inthe Foreword, it is our holy Faith, first of all: deep, loving, unguestioning. Our tender devotion to our Lady is likewise surely a Holy Name heritage, and our trust in prayer. Part of our heritage is practical-the preparation for vocations and avocationsg and part is cultural and social-our appreciation of the beautiful and true, and our charity, which gives Christ to others and finds Him in them, too. But a final portion of our heritage, and a precious portion it is, at that, is com- posed of memories of our school days. In this postscript you'll find pictures which will always remind you of the days when you were a Namer, back in '52.
