ON FAMILIAR 'LIFE' APPLICATIONS This year the biology stu- dents observed crate after crate of new equipment being installed in Sister lerome's sunny biology lab, ZUSC. Among the additions this year were forms of dicot and monocot stems and leaves, two new display cupboards, plaques of butterflies and a few spiders, among which were the rare Black Widow, male and female. The outstanding project, stu- dent scientists declare, was the compilation of fruit book- lets, with prizes going to lo- anne McGrath '50, Helen Klimas '5l, Rose Arena '52, and Marcia Schmidt '52. Drawing from models of a Corn Monocot Stem and a four year Dicot Stem are John Podsedly, James Hyka and Paul Bender, Sophomore biology students. Another class which aids many Namers in the field of science, whether used at home or as a prep- aration for future use in college, is physics, taught by Sister Angela Mary. The fundamentals of sound and light, the work- ing of the radio, the sign- posts of weather chang- ing, the significance and use of machines, the measurements of temper- ature, and the generation and control of electricity are all practical applica- tions of the physics class.
