FUTURE HOMEMAKERS LEARN Practical application oi their lessons in physics is being made, above, by Seniors Torn Zell, lohn McCauley, and Ray Kruzel, who are busy repairing lamps, irons, doorbells, and other electrical appliances from their homes. Miss Ruth De More, registered nurse, instructs Seniors Audrey Mroczek and lo- sephine Trecarichi Cin the second picturel on how to bathe a patient in bed. Sister Rose Alma is faculty advisor for this group, and Sister Angela Mary teaches the repair class. Page 54

SCIENCE CLASSES CONCENTRATE Proud Winners in the Water Wheel Contest are Margaret Burke and Frank Novak '53, displaying the 275 water wheels made by other students in Freshmen general science classes. Ever since the new general science laboratory was set up in the basement oi Gal- lagher Building iour years ago, water Wheels have been spinning in the annual Au- tumn Freshman Water Wheel Contest. This year 275 Wheels were on display in the laboratory. Every type oi material was used from Walnut shells to pi- ano keys. First prize Winners were Frank Novak, lUlG, Whose red-and-black trimmed alumi- num Wheel was both large and compact, and Margaret Burke, 2U4G, who entered a finely carved modernistic model. The making and testing of pure distilled Water keeps Bill Raimer, Frank Cwiklinski, and John O'Neil busy during the chemistry lab period under the direction of Sister Mary Robert. Climbing to the top oi the mezzanine each day, Iuniors enter the chem- istry lab to learn more about a science that will play a big part in their everyday life. Realizing the practical value of chemistry, Sister Mary Robert not only oi- iers a preparation for col- lege chemistry, but makes a practical application oi daily Work, including a study oi ioods, iuel, gar- dening and drugs, that will aid students in later liie.
