Beginning with the Apostolic College, it continues in an unbroken line of succession dispensing the mysteries of God.- Going, therefore, teach ye all nations, baptizing them-Cabsolving them, communicating with them in the breaking of breadj-teaching them to observe all things whatsoever I have commanded you and behold I am with you all days even to the end of the world CMatt XXVIII 19 201 It extends to the littlest one who gives a cup of cold water in His Name Then shall the righteous answer Him, saying Lord, when saw we Thee hungry and fed Thee? or athirst and gave Thee drink? And the King shall answer and say unto them Verily I say unto you inasmuch as ye did it unto one of these My brethren, even these least, ye did it unto Me ' CMatt XXV 37 402 If this be so, how pleasing to the King must be the ministry of those holy women who suffer the little children to come unto Him Theirs is a special ministry W call them Sisters They are Sisters Sisters of the King Their proper title is Princess for their Brother Whom they serve is the King of Kings, and their Mother and His Mother is the Queen of Heaven and Earth Mary ever Virgin As spiritual Princesses of the Blood Royal it is their privilege to keep the House of Nazareth The house itself may be located amid beautiful surroundings or it may be placed in dingy slums, it may be built of stone or brick, or wood, at may have one room, or many rooms it may be scientifically equipped or with no equipment at all it may be over crowded or restricted to a limited number but, because the Slsters of the King keep the house it is the house of Nazareth Mary full of grace is there presiding Jesus is there, represented in each little one waxing strong and growing in age and grace and wisdom before God and man Ah this is the glorious ministry of our teaching Sisters to keep the house of Nazareth Sisters of the King they see their Brother Christ in each child entrusted to their care They remember He died for all and be the child deaf dumb blind, or attentive alert, brilliant quick or slow, in their own school or the public school they seek to make it the image and likeness of the Son of Mary their mother and His mother Their mission is to teach the child the youth, the man the woman to know God to love Him to serve Him on earth and to be His Angels in Heaven Most systems of education are concerned with the mechanics of education with theories and methods and standards The Keepers of the house of Nazareth the Sisters of the King, although they use what is best in modern standardized thought and practice, are not lost in the labyrinth of a varying ever changing educational frame work To them the purpose of education is paramount That purpose is the same to day, yesterday, and forever the knowledge of God love of Him, service here and union with Him hereafter Ye have but one teacher, Chr1t says the Gospel Jesus is the transcenden al teacher Wisdom Eternal and D1v1ne the great Augustine informs us It is He whether one speaks or is spoken to, whether one teaches or is taught, who implants the same truth in the mind of him who speaks and of him who listens This simultaneous ness of inspiration might lead to the belief that there are teachers and pupils, but, in reality there is but one Master, one Teacher Jesus and His Sisters keep His House and minister unto Him I 1 1 . Out of a nine-game schedule, the varsity took but two victories, with six losses and one tie. The poor showing of the team may be explained in part by the adage, A team is only as good as its substitutes. In the latter, Holy Name was lacking. not only in number, but in experience and size. In the initial tilt, VVest High eked out a 7 to 0 victory by the completion of a forward pass at the termination of the half. The Irish's line-showing on the offense and defense was superb, but the backtield's numerous fumbles offset this good work, impeding the Newburgh eleven's scoring possibilities. Engaging liast Liverpool at the Potters' city the following week. the Big Green played their best game of the season, smashing their way to an 18 to 7 victory. The running attack unleashed by the Namers completely baffled the Potters, who made their only score of the fray by recovering a fumble on the 3-yard line and pushing the ball over the goal after three line smashes. A technicality gave them the extra point. In the next tilt, Holy Name scored a 7 to O victory over Benedictine High. but displayed a woeful lack of scoring punch. Although the Namers' offense was not strong, they showed a stubborn defense, and were never seriously threatened by the brown-jerseyed warriors. Meeting the University gridmen in their next encounter, the Irish, falling prey to a last quarter rally, lost 20 to 6. The Big Green scored in the first few minutes of play, but the prep school tied the score in the second quarter and clinched the victory in the last by adding two markers. The Suburbanites took l50l he 750113 amz tal xx x. their toll of yardage by sweeping the Newburghites' ends behind a perfect screen of interference. Lincoln lligh, who had not won a game in three years, took a moral victory from the South find school, by holding them to a scoreless tie in the next tussle. Lincoln played on the defense for the major part of the game, although they threatened once when a l.incolnite recovered a fumble on the 18-yard line, but lost the ball on downs. XYeather conditions were most unfavorable. A strong southwesterly wind played havoc with passes and kicks, while the mercury flirted with the ten above mark Cathedral l.atin, Holy Namc's arch foe, was met the following week. The Latineers plowed their way to four consecutive first downs right after the kickoff, and scored on three line bucks from the 3-yard line. After Latin scored, the South lfud aggregation forced them to fight for the rest of the fray, and had a decided edge on them at the termination of the game. l.atin emerged on the long end of a 7 to O score. St. Vincent. Akron, journeyed to Cleveland and gave the Holy Name outfit a l-l to 0 pasting the following Saturday. The Vincentians' aerial offense clicked, accounting for their first touchdown plus both extra points. As in the Lincoln game, adverse weather conditions slowed up both teams, but the Akronites had the knack of using the breaks to the best advantage, and once again the Newburgh eleven tasted the dregs of defeat. ln a game replete with end runs. passes and line smashes, Holy Name fell, lZ to 0, before St. john, Toledo, in the next tussle. St. Ignatius. a Catholic league foe. sank Holy Name I9 to 6 in the first scholastic football game to he played on Sunday in Cleveland. As Clayton is only a sophomore, he should develop into a real star. He has a bright athletic fixture before him. Glcoluna Divoxv George was the main offensive cog in the tearn's attack. His size and natural aptitude for the game made him an invaluable meni- ber. Always a thorn in the side of the opposition, he took first shooting honors for the season and ranked among the leading centers in the city. Hecause of her ability to tap the ball on the jump, and her spectacular long shots. the girls greatly depended on Anna Mae for victories. ANNIQ: Z1':iol.1-:R Although Anile is only a soph, she has merited a position on the varsity. Great responsibility has been placed on her shoulders because of her passing and floor work. In the future she will probably be one of the most outstanding players. MARU: CULLEN Clever floor work and a special knack at left-hand shots made Marie a capable for' ward and an important cog in this year's team. Her speed and accuracy at finding the basket helped the team out of many a tough situation. ANNA MM: Mefluiiu-i Possessing the natural qualities of a basketball player. Anna Mae successfully filled the position of forward on the varsity. Clever passwork was her specialty.
