STUDENTS PARTICIPATE IN ADVENT AND CHRISTMAS For four thousand years the Israelites awaited the coming of their Saviorg at times their spirits were quickened by a strong, pure hope, and at times that hope lay smould- ering and obscure, but it was never completely quenched--the memory of the Promise ofthe one true God prevailed. During the season of Advent Catholics commemorate the wait of the Jews by the lighting of the Advent Wreath, a slender branch of evergreen twisted into the shape of a circle and bearing four candles, used to mark off the four weeks of waiting. After Monsignor Reid has blessed our wreath according to the traditional rites, Dennis Campbell, the youngest member ofthe school family, lights the first candle and. . 80 A . . . the hall is filled with a chorus of youthful voices raised in anticipation of the great feast of Christmas. 4' 1 .QQ 1 WT?
