Quickly and si- lently, time has raced by, never stopping long enough for us to think out our fantasies and hopes for life. As freshmen, we envisioned the world as bright and cheery, ready to give us a chance, but as we grew older, we came to the realization that we would have to plan and work for anything we wanted. Real hard work was involved. And we grew, in love, in knowledge, and in understanding. In the process, dreams were shattered and pulled apart until we could no longer recognize them. With a little bit of faith, we rebuilt our dream world, but this time we put the real world before us and our dreams behind us. Veronica Hruby Arlene President Vice- w err 2' :ABQ ,ll- 'W M. Holy Family's maxi- mum accreditation of five years expired this year-it was time for another evalu- ation. Following the plan of the Western Association of Schools and Colleges, our school began preparation during the summer, lasting until February of 1977. Each department, under the direction of the Steering Committee, evaluated itself. Many faculty members and students generously gave of their time and knowl- edge. Sister Margaret Mary headed the Steering Committee, Mrs. Bogan, Sister Realino, and Mrs. Brkich also were chair- men, and Ann McMichael led the Student Committee. During the week of February 14, the WASC visiting team took an in- side look at our school. After sitting in on classes and meeting both faculty and stu- dents, the group left H.F. especially im- pressed by the students' honesty and friendliness. They promised to forward a favorable report to the State. Sister Margaret Mary, Steering Com- mittee Chairman, and Mrs. Kay Bayley, Visiting Committee Member, enjoy dinner conversation. The day opened with a spe- cial Mass proclaiming I Am Unique Yet Part of a Whole . The banner, liturgy, and the music all reflected long hours of preparation. The events climaxed as jun- iors tearfully and joyfully presented class rings to each other. Later they celebrated during an off-campus lunch with family and friends. Finally, seniors gave yellow carnations to the juniors as a sign of friendship during an innovative sit-down reception. Cooperation and hard work yielded a day meant to be remembered. ... trr ttr' titt ,ttllt ttt t 'rtt --1 -'-N' ith? P' WFS MW T Smiysgpl 'P a s f i -4 fl Q J Q smith..- . To raise money for our prom, we urged friends, third cousins, and total strangers to buy Current stationery. In December we closed the Bicentennial Year by getting our rings. Prom Skit and the Big Night itself were the bestest. We will always remember all our years at I-I.P., but because of the new kind of growing we have done during junior year, it will have a special power to warm our hearts. ' Who wants the first piece? Driver's Ed was one big merry-go- round, with teachers and unit tests acting as mix-ups. The picnic on campus with the freshmen was our first experience of leadership. Through our retreat at last we were given a chance to find out about ourselves and others. What a week- end! We finished the year off by hosting a farewell breakfast for the Seniors. Friendship had helped us grow. . xxx XNXX ' , .iii fr if I 11- ,ilf-2 M, sf r 'Q iax fn at rrrct prit if ss X xp 5 fini.-mmf. . ,. swf' x i f eg 5 ei H 'luv' 2 ,Eff 3, my at a , sag: 1 ,, ig 'r l A Q X L 5-2 ILVA A s , f a i xi gb Chris Ernme basks in the sunny noontirne lineup. It seems only yesterday that it was September 1973, and I was eagerly awaiting the wonderful world of high school! Now, four years later, I still carry that eager anticipation of the future and look for- ward to the experiences that will come, but the memories of Holy Family and what you, my friends, have given me will always remain-for you have become a part of me. The only words that express what I feel are-thank you. Thank you for your love, your laughter, your smiles, and your friendships. Through you and with you I have grown. Keep always happy. Brainstorming in spe- cial meeting, we decided to form this organization. We coaxed Mrs. Pavlis into being our mod- erator and electing Tina Cian- frini and Margaret Lile to serve as officers, and were set to go. Right away, meetings were held: we discussed visiting hospitals, joining in bowl-a-thons and walk-a-thons, and helping the officers with lunch truck duty. Our club has finally been es- tablished, and we are ready to build on it. Our Work Is Our Love Social Action aims to develop the students' awareness in help- ing the less fortunate. The lack of pressure and deadlines, and the warmth that I find in all connected with Holy Family makes me proud to be the pastor of the parish, administrator of the schools, and friend of everyone. I hope and pray that the success of 1976-1977 will be measured not so much by our physical prog- ress but by the love and friendship we share. My prayers and blessing-from friend to friend, Rev. Msgr. Arthur J. Lirette Her Counseling Is Our Guiding Light Sr. Gerarda is both the guidance director and a busi- ness math teacher here at Holy Family. Teaching and traveling from Hawaii to Montana, she learned to cope with the problems of grade school children and young men and women of high school age and devel- oped an extraordinary sense of humor. She is usually found roaming the hallways in hope of finding a sen- ior for whom she can obtain a scholarship to a uni- versity. Spending hours of her own time trying to de- cipher student problems and dilemmas, she often re- laxes by reading a good book or taking a very long walk. Sister Gerarda would rather brush paint onto the walls of a classroom than sit still at home, be- cause inactivity makes her want to climb the walls. Although counseling is her major field, she loves to teach and prefers to teach and counsel at a high school rather than a grade school. Without Sr. Ger- arda, life here at Holy Family would go at a slower and less humorous pace. Musician with a Gourmet Touch Beginning her musical life at an early age, Miss Mary Breden learned quickly from the teaching of her mother, who encouraged her to play the piano. Her musical tal- ent grew under a private teacher. During high school, Miss Breden worked hard at improving her musical abilities. In her senior year, she finally achieved recog- nition when she received the Bank of America award for music. To polish up her musical education, Miss Breden traveled abroad, marveling at the great works of Bach, Beethoven, and Chopin found in Munich, Germany. At the present, Miss Breden heads the music department, acts as Glee Club moderator, and teaches pop choir, piano, and choral fundamentals here at Holy Family. In out-of-school hours she participates in the choir at St. Basil's and helps to conduct the choir at Loyola-Mary- mount University. At home, she enjoys cooking and ex- perimenting with varieties of food, especially when the recipe calls for foods sauted in wine. It is not to be care- lessly neglected, nor is it to be forgotten. As each year rolls around, each and every one of us fantasizes about the future, and about our hopes, our dreams, and our goals. Today, we must learn to face all memories of the past, both good and bad. We must learn to accept the consequences of the decisions made yesterday and to organize our plans not only for the future, but also for the present. Now, we must unfold the story behind us, W -'e---t' ,,, , ...,, ...es K .B Q .4 . me the hidden past and the present will bring to light a true autobiography, full of exciting and vivid details of our lives. As we look toward tomorrow, we await, in high expectation, the fullfillment of hopes and dreams. When the dreams shatter, the hopes dissolve, and the goals stretch so far beyond our reach that they seem impossi- ble to attain-we must remember to stop, pick up the pieces, and begin to remold our lives, for in reality: Today is Our Moment, Now is Our Story, and Tomor- row-Our Dream! It took two days to find the words to best describe our love. On the first day of Class Day, all the classes gathered in the grade school auditorium to sing their farewells. Songs ranged from It's Almost the End of the Year by the faculty, to a freshman medley. Sophomores sang You've Only just Begun, while the junior medley included an original solo by Teresa Dickey. During Teresa's song, red carnations were given to the gradu- ates as a sign of love and farewell. On the second day, it was the sopho- mores' turn to give the seniors a per- sonal goodbye. At the Pasadena Hil- ton breakfast, each sophomore gave her senior partner a tribute and a personal gift.
