Appropriately, we shall therefore, give little recog- nition to the hours of endless planning, the tiresome last minute changes, the format of this book, and last but by no means least, the finances. These eHorts give way to the joy and happiness found in our MARIA. joy, because it enabled us to turn back the pages of our four years at Holy Family and relive the precious moments spent here. Happiness, because we can share with you a few of those unforget- table moments. This MARIA contains only a section of the blessed album of our stay here, but if by it you can grasp our message, namely, that we owe an unpayable debt and gratitude to our beloved Alma Mater, then we, the graduating class of 1953 can proudly say that we pub- lished the MARIA, and in future years it will serve not only as a remembrance and an inspiration, but also as a recollection that our toil was not in vain. , 1t 5X 9 W 3 I 'Q 4,1 9 IVlm1'e Iwo or three are gathered in My Name, lhffrff am I in lhff midst of them. Her kindness and impartial interest in each student make Sister an essential element in the formation of our character and to the continuance of our happy school days. XVe envy our underclassmen who can for a few years more, approach her for counsel, love and understanding. In recogni- tion of her kindness to us, we are proud to place the results of our efforts in her name, hoping that in the years to come, Sister will bless us with her remembrance, and by her prayers urge us on to greater heights as she strove to do in the past. ll I 'C' YVILLIAM E. We soon found out what algebra, French, and Spanish were like and our high spirits were slightly defiated. NVe just didn't appreciate Diophantus' combination of numbers and letters. After all wc: weren't Greeks! We proved ourselves true Holy Familyites, however, by weathering the treacherous seas of math and the languages. The various dis- placement and replacement of the faculty left us students quite baffled, and those long punishments of writing and writing! O-o-h-h! All work and no play makes Jack a dull boy, so to offset this, the football games, basketball games, and school dances appeared in the nick of time, not only to make this a most pleasant year, but also to place June right at our feet. And so our first year slipped by. SEPTEMBER - 1950 We felt rather satisfied with ourselves after having successfully completed be a cinch! But the huge biological terms were intricacies of the angles and circles of geometry. Shakespeare's Julius Caesar didn't help matters either. YVith a fresh burst able to overcome these obstacles that threatened those French classes were just too good to miss! one year. This was going to unexpected, as also were the of energy, though, we were total annihilation: moreover, Father Whelan conducted a retreat this year which proved to be a great spiritual benefit. Heaven seemed to open its doors to us, and a few lost lambs found their way back to the Holy Family portals, and once more our class was complete. Football was discontinued this year, but the basketball team was in top form and the games served as an outlet for our abundant school spirit. The second year over so soon! I ! .-J 58 SEPTEMBER - 1951 Upper classmen at last! Physics, history, and shorthand were approached with apprehension at first, then with a typical determination that marked success- ful completion. We almost burst with pride the first day we sported our class rings. Lads and lassies alike celebrated at a class party which proved to be a lot of fun. We sponsored our first dance which to everyone's satisfaction was an overwhelming success. Maybe a tear or two fell unnoticed at the thought that these years were flying by too fast, but finding it impossible to give OLD MAN TIME a ticket for speeding, we started to cram everything into the little time left. Examinations came and went. The end of the school year was highlighted by ai trip to Oak Bluffs, and alas, we were leaving our child- hood behind. And so goodbye to another year! l I SEPTEMBER - 1952 We returned again for the last time. Everyone seemed so grown up. History and chemistry soon turned our minds down to earth and studying, and a fixed determination conquered these gruelling subjects. The Boys' Glee Club was an added attraction this year. The Thanksgiving concert featuring the combined Glee Clubs proved a very successful event. We studied, played, and prayed but all with a secret anticipation. What next? Examinations were con- quered and festivity marked our programs. The Prom, class parties, and suchl l But at last graduation! I I Were some lips quivering? Indeed they were. We are now leaving you, Holy Family. No more will our voices be heard in your halls, and no longer will you shield usg but fortunately, you've done a good job, and our voices loud and strong, will sound throughout the world, shouting forth all that you have taught us. We are happy now, and as we say goodbye, we admit that we are sad at leaving you. We realize that you have made us wiser and happier, and we thank you sincerely. -Janice Sawyer 59 INDEPENDENT FILMS INC. presents Q THE MARCH OP TIME NEWSREEL OF 1977 Holy Family High class ot 1953 announces that plans are underway tor a gala 25th reunion next year. Many members ot this class have made a prominent place tor themselves in the world. 1 i Nation s Capital Announcement has been made ot the over whelming election ot William Giblin tclass president in the runior and senior yearsl to the presidency ot the U. A , I Bristol Aggies In playing the supposedly weak Bristol Aggies quintet, the Summer Streeters gave one of their most dismal performances in many a day, going down to defeat 62-44. The only bright spot of the night was the fact that the H. F. Junior Varsity copped the Narry League Championship by defeating the Aggies 50-24. Vocational In revenging an earlier lost, Vocational hoopsters defeated our Parochials 55-47. Norton led the H. F. took every advantage as they also eclipsed the high school team total of 62 points. Lent played well and netted 16, while Macedo took .host of his team's rebounds and cut the nets for 14. In the semi-hnals, the Summer Streeters didn't fare so well and bowed 55-5l to Major Beale High of Shrewsbury.
