'-iiii. ayf ' . v-- - ' , . -ff-ij-V In September 1958 the Class of '50 entered upon its school life The three original members of the class are Patricia Kelly, Bob Poole and Jo Ann Fitzsimmons Many of the students who started out with this class have moved from Ashland and one, Leo McGuire, was called home by God Others came to fill the vacancies, Helen Jean Malloy in the fourth grade, Nada Tabet in the fifth, Beverly Hinze and Richard Hopes in the sixth, Paul Henneman in the seventh, Jimmie Appledorn and Frazier Dawson in the eighth, Ralph Hobart as a sophomore and Eleanor Mahaney, who advanced a grade, as a Junior Helen Cunningham, who, although she is one of the few who started out with this rade, has not spent her entire school years at Holy Family Hugh Grant and Helen Bruce joined the As Sophomores we becmme members of the church choir in which we sang class as seniors Our grade school passed happily, for the most part, with the success and failures, Joys and pains common to all children We remember especially our sixth grade when besides our regular lessons, sister taught us dancing spent in green as would be chose as Freshmen The most treasured years of our school days, however, have been those high school From the time that we were Freshmen, as giddy and as any other Freshmen, everyone knew that the graduating class of 1950 one of the best ever turned out from Holy Family During this year we our class colors scarlet and gray, for our flower a red rose we displayed our histrionic ability when we took part in the operetta 'Gypsy Troubadour' so well that we were awarded pens Several clubs were organized during this year, the Hobby Club belng the favorlte of the boys The Sodality girls gave the outstanding dance of the year, 'The Lamb and Lion Dance' At the close of this year, our teachers, the Franciscan Sisters, were replaced by the Slsters of DlVlH6 Prov1dence Our Junior year was filled with activity We sponsored a very suc cessful Hellowe'en party The majorlty of the 1rls 1n the class took part in the senior class play, 'They ,ave Him a Co nd' We worked hard to raise money for the Annual and we planned carefully to give the Seniors an outstanding Prom and Banquet All of our 8CtlV1tlSS were favored with success Seniors at last' In September we moved 1nto our new school,an ideal, well equlnped modern structure On November thlrteenth, the Most Rev Wm T Mulloy, dedicated the building and 1nvested 1D the robes F1tZS1W ODS and Richard Hopes, had the leading roles in the 'The Darien Album' In November of this year several members of a Lonsivnor, dedication play, of the class went to fartin, Kentucky, to carry out an asslgn ent for tae 'Crossroads' In be cember, a long awaited dream CBIB true we received our class r1n s After Chrlstmas we had our formal dance in the new gym We were prlvlleged durlng March to o to Maysville where we assisted at a Pontifical High Ness sung by the Most Weverend Bishop for vocations Our class play 'Freckles', viven early in May, oroved our dramatic ability, shown earlier in our school life Bacca laureate Sunday, caps and gowns, graduation, diplomas all these became a reality at the close of our Senior year vhat the future holds for this class you may learn in their Class Prophecy The Senior Class -.za-... O PRDPHECY 5: CLASS Good evening, friends This is nary Jane Sassin, your announcer for the 'Scrapbook of Famous Gradsn This evening we will discuss the gradu ating class of 1950 from Holy Family School, Ashland, Kentucky As I look over the records of the members of this class, I am convinced that they have ful filled their ambitions to become successful men and women in the business and in the professional world There's Jimmie Appledorn Jimmie has set a new speed record as a pilot and is now president of the American Airlines Corporation Paul Henneman head mechanic for the American airlines, also holds a teaching position at the Chicago Vocational Training School The Indianaoolis Olympians, a professional team, has been fortunate in securing Ralph Fobart, a former Holy Family star, as a regular guard We look over the gridiron record of the Yentucky Wildcats and find that Coach Bob Poole has done an outstanding Job If we were to take a trip to the forty seventh floor of the Empire State Building, we would find Helen Jean Malloy, as sweet and beautiful as ever now a very successful secre tary, working for a famous lawyer Yes, ladies and gentlemen, I'm sure you agree with me when I say that this was a very fine class Why not drop in at the Barter Theater some evening and see Richard Fopes portraying the leading role in 'Hamlet' He cer tainly has come a long way since he played the part of 'Freckles' in the Senior Class play of the same name Eleanor Nahaney, a famous dancing teacher, now has her own studio in Cincinnati, Ohio 'Tabets Super Chain varket' so flash es the Neon sign as you approach a modern, well eouipped store, one of the many owned by no other than Nada her school days was to be a Clinic Helen Bruce, has operates an exclusive dress ize her She has designed Beverly Hinze who was voted herself Jo Ann ritzsinmons whose ambition during nurse, is now head nurse in surgery at the Mayo become a famous designer for women's fashions She shop in New York where onlv the wealthy can natron an exquisite creation whlch will be worn by liss 'Most Co operative odel of 1959 News from abroad states that Pat Kelly has just finished a week's engagement at the Palladium in London As you know Pat is one of the most tal ented pianists in the world today She was accompanied on her trip to London by Misa Helen Cunningham, renowned sculptress of the twentieth century On their return to America they will visit Jashington, U C where they will be the guests of MT Frazier Dawson, a prominent lawyer of that city From Washington they will fly to California to visit another of their classmates, Hugh Grant, who is teaching at the University of California. Hugh majored in Public Speak ing and now he especially emphasizes the effectiveness of short speeches. This is all the news I see recorded about the famous graduates of 1950.
