They give color and character to every action. They determine the individual's moral value. Concurrently with the conferring of diplomas, you receive commission to make a solo flight into life-a flight that shall exalt you with honor and merit. When the Master of Nazareth uttered the solemn words, You are the salt of the earth, His eye penetrated the centuries ahead and rested with sweet predilection on the Graduates of l942. On YOU! Salt of the earth! To season, to preserve, to refresh-with the fervor and virtue of young Cath- olic womanhood . . . For our day presents an unhealthy drifting from the pure and lofty ideals, and a peculiar sympathy with what is spiritually de- formed and obscure. Fearless in your tenets, you will revive the ebbing faith of those vacillating between sublimity and transient profit. Through integrity and purity of life, you will inject new strength into the wilting, vitiated lives of others. Your cheerful loyalty to God-given laws will ignite a spark of light and love where discontent warped the heart. ln this great apostleship, be vigilant-lest your own buoyant spirit deterio- rate. Conserve its tone, continually replenish its mystic power at Christ's fount of graces. Free from the chains of prejudice, proceed in peace and hope-with intellectual vision-with inspired enthusiasm-a song of worship in your heart-o word of kindness on your lips-Proceed in the footsteps of the Master.
