H For the past twenty years, Brother Jeremias, C.S.C., has taught here at Holy Cross High School. Born and educated in Chicago, Brother Jeremias became early in life a real Holy Cross Man, for his entire elementary, secondary, and college education was received from the Brothers and Priests of Holy Cross, first at Holy Trinity School in Chicago and later, after a year of religious training at St. Joseph ' s Novitiate, at the University of Notre Dame in Indiana. In the summer of 1940, Brother Jeremias was given obedience to teach in St. Joseph ' s High School in South Bend. Due to a polio epidemic that autumn, the school did not open on time in September. As a result, Brother ' s obedience was changed and he came South to begin what was to be an uninter- rupted twenty years in the Crescent City. Having been well-trained in library science by five summer school sessions at the Catholic Univer- sity of America in Washington, DC, Brother Jere- mias has doubled the number of volumes in the school library during his term as librarian. The old library, which was originally in the main building, was transferred in 1955 to the upper school building and the seating capacity was increased from twenty- eight to fifty-six. He has taught English, hist ory and religion hei ' e besides being librarian. For six years. Brother Jeremias served as Assist- ant Prefect in the Junior Dormitory and for the past five years he has been sacristan of the Brothers ' Chapel. Currently, he is archivist for the local com- munity of Holy Cross Brothers and submits news items to different publications periodically. Hard-working, cheerful, helpful and scholarly. Brother Jeremias is a man who does much and says little about his duties which are many. His hobby is good reading and he enjoys sports of all kinds. To Brother Jeremias who has given Holy Cross twenty years of hard, quiet, cheerful work, this 1960 TIGER is gratefully and respectfully dedicated. t DEDICATED TO BROTHER JEREmiflS mVSLIUIlEC C. S.
