NDUSTRIAL ARTS Under the direction of Brother Thomas Burns, CSC., and his assistant, Brother joseph Dunne, CSC., the Industrial Arts Department provides an education in the use and care of wood, and machine and metal working tools. Both Brothers have received intensive training in the field of Industrial Arts at Indiana State Teachers College. Since its inauguration in September of 1957, the school shop has steadily grown to its present value of nearly thirty thousand dollars. Its equipment consists of the finest precision lathes and ranges down to the smallest hand tools. This year the shop was furnished with two printing presses, thus extending the Industrial Arts program to include printing for those who elect it. Shop courses are available to juniors and Seniors only. Each class has a capacity of nineteen students. The boys start out with fundamentals, learning the correct use of machine and hand tools, and gradually work up to difficult and rewarding projects. The shop plays a major role in the fixit activities around the school, including prop building for school plays, and general maintenance of school property.
