With the help of Mrs. Deborah Barney and Mrs. Lyn Moran, the cheerleaders created innovative pep rallies and routines filled with spirit. Another routine successfully performed. The cheerleaders fill the fans with spirit. Cheerleaders 47 VARSITY SOCCER With all but three returning starters and second year coach Jim Patton, the Varsity Soccer team produced a winning season. The team boasted a 9-6-1 season record, with a Virginia Independent Conference record of 6-2. This total turn-around from last season climaxed with a 2-1 win over Eastern Mennonite, a feat which had not been accomplished in over 10 years. Rodney deGuzman and Mike Lexa were voted All-Conference players in the V.I.C. MiKe gives it nis all. Varsity Soccer 49 VARSITY VOLLEYBALL Under the leadership of new coach Sara Riley, the girls ' volleyball season proved to be both a challenge and a learning experience. The team may not have paralleled the performance of previous seasons, but great advancements were made by the players, young and old. All in all, the year proved to be a valuable experience In teamwork. All-conference first-team honors went to Laura Amparan, while Shelby Barrette was named to the second team. The boys ended the year with a 6-4-2 record and valuable experience for the future. A strong defense led by goalie Chris Garwood and a productive offense led by Matt Lesniak aided in the success of the season. The team had few returning players but under the leadership of Coaches June Moon and Kelly Bryant, the girls learned the sport ' s fundamentals. They have a bright and promising future. With only three returning players, the Gales struggled through a tough schedule and and an injury-plagued year to give new meaning to the words ' dedication ' and ' persistance ' . It was these qualities that enabled the team to highlight their season with a come from behind, 59-57, victory over the Covenant to end the year on a positive note. Varsity Boys ' Baskett)all 55 VARSITY GIRLS ' BASKETBALL After a year without a team, Girls ' Varsity Basketball was reborn under the direction of enthusiastic new coach, Mr. Larry Morin. The young Gaelettes, with only two players from the previous team, fought bravely through a strenuous season. Great potential was discovered and improvement was made by all. Varsity Girls ' Basketball 57 J.V. BOYS ' BASKETBALL The J.V. Boys had a tough but exciting year. Their wins included Linkhorne and Sandusky. It was the first time in twelve years that the J.V. Boys had beat Linkhorne and the first time ever in Holy Cross history that the J.V. boys beat Sandusky. Girls ' Baskettjall 59 SOFTBALL Under the new leadership of Coach Wheeler, the Gaelettes fought many hard battles this year. Under the supervision of Mrs. Barabach, the SAC sponsored a bloodmobile that was held on April 20. Besides the bloodmobile, the SAC held two Open Forums, the first annual Christmas semi-formal dance, and the annual Advisee Day. The SAC plans to sponsor all of these events on a yearly basis. By the end of the year arch number three was complete, and four additional arches were started along the outer walkway. It was an opportunity to share time with faculty, parents and students as well as a time to look back to the good old days.
