ATHLETICS Speaklng of sports basketball has aroused the enthuslasm ot the stu dents of H C H S th1s vear For thls year as every year the classes have plaved an excltlng tournament 1n basketball Under the splendld guldance of our gvm teacher Mrs Ruth Houston our Semor team won the basketball tournament with Patrlcla Hmse as captam The flrst game of the tournxment was pl u ed between the Senlors and Jumors on December 19th 1944 Both teams were extremely good 1n the art of maklng baskets To the f1n1sh of the game the spectators walted anxxously for the outcome Then from the cheerlng sectlon ot the Semors came the cry Senlors 15 Junlors 8 Thus the game came to an end as the enthuslastlc crowd rushed on the floor to congratulate the w1nn1ng team On December 21 1944 another excltlng game was played between the bophomores and Freshmen The score was 18 to 10 xn t lvor of the Sopho mores January 9 1945 endlng 1n a score of 10 7 A game whlch resulted 1n a t1e was play ed between the JUIIIOFQ and Freshmen on January 11 1945 The game was played agaln result1ng 1n success for the Junlors wlth the score 13 7 The flfth game of the tournament was between the JUDIOFQ and Sopho mores ThlS game ended ln another vlctory for the Sophomores by a score of 15 9 The game whlch was to be the last for the Semors was a breath takmg game Wlth the Freshmen Th1S game resulted 1n the second t1e of the tour nament A second game ended w1th an overwhelmlng score of 15 9 1n favor of the Senlors Our pralse and congratulatlons go to the Freshmen team whlch shows great promlse for future vears As the basketball season drew to a close we found the guls preparlng for the volley, ball tournament Wlth the sprlng weather comlng on every day a famlllar Slght IQ to see the gym classes playing speed ball and baseball out on the plavmg fleld As the school year comes to an end all the glrls especlally the Qemors w1ll look back and thlnk of the manv happy days spent elther partlclpatmg 1n or watchmg our athletlc contests Charlene Nlerlock F de M 45 Glorlal ugent F de M 15 . , . . . s ' s - ' . t , A 4 nw , ' .T c I ' ' ' -Y 2 . l . .
