Do 'lou lQf3l1lE1fVlf7E1l' lwaen Ixeyna Belerl m Freshman Relrgron class started an explanatxon of the dexotron of the lrrst Saturdays by sayrng Well there s only one Sat urday rn a week Edrth Ernst rn a Senror Engllsh class stated she drdnt lrke the moxre because It wasnt true to lrfe the mam character was too real In our Sophomore year we gamboled wrth the Senrors on the green meadows of Chestnut Rrdge Park and scrambled up and down shady glens9 Father Andrew Ansbro the retreat master rn our unlor year presented us wrth that vrvxd descrrptrou of the Consecratlon of the Mass7' Chrrst s unbloody sacrrflce was made real to us as were many other every day relrgrous toplcs by hrs drrect forceful words Regarded as shlpwrecked by Ireshmen rooters but extremely trrm by ourselxes we sarlors of HMS junror Class danced whrstled and sang our way through Opemng Nrght 1947 Wrth the help of Grlbert and Sull1van the captarn of the team was proudly supported and cheered by the rest of the class? Clutchxng our long skrrts about us vue dashed up to the front steps of H A A before the wrnd of that May eyenmg could wlup the curl out of our haxr9 It was the event of the formal banquet sponsored by the unlors rn honor of the gradu atrng class We floated on wmgs of taffeta lace and ehrffon about the cafeteria now transformed by the deft lingers of members of our class The tables were arranged ID the form of S and to one rde was a castle complete from moat to towers An cntertamment a caxalcade of songs and sklts followed The affair ended wlth a note of nostalgra when we sang The year has ended but the memory lmgers on and the Semors gracrously replied by srngmg therr song Good bye good luck God bless you The day before our Thanksgnrng Holrday the entlre Semor class buzzed wrth anxrety oy er a box holdrng nrnety two em elopes7 As Edwrna called her name each grrl reached for an envelope and tore rt open rn a flurry Out fell a gold and ruby rrng Oh' Ah' At last each Senior wore on her finger thrs symbol of HA A Despxte the cold Semors homeward bound were qurckly recognrzed by one bare hand flashrn that long awaited band of metal and stone Father Murray durrng our last retreat at H A A related to us an mcrdent that occurred rn Nora Scot1a7 A prrest went at Christmas trme to a remote parrsh usrted only four txmes a year On the mornmg of December 24 he sald Mass then heard confessrons rn the afternoon and evenmg Although there would be no mrdnrght Mass people filled the church at 11 30 Father remrnded 1 gentleman 1n the rear of the church that the first Mass would be on Chrrstmas mornrng at 8 o clock The man replred Father we understood that but smce our blessed Lord comes to us only four trmes a year we want to spend as much tlme rn Hrs Presence as possrble gym lflrglrt Amrd the rustle of crepe paper and clmk of baby bottles the four classes agaln thrs year pre pared for gym nrght Openrng mght always a blg ew ent was awarted eagerly by faculty and students alrke An esrtra secretrxe arr seemed to surround each homeroom A knock at the door brought desk lrds up and down so swlftly that many a grrl had a black and blue badge of honor to show for her work rn the program Because of the great number of parents and frrends who wlshed to attend the stunts two open mg nrghts were dccrded upon Followrng the stunts the first nrght the Semors played the Soph omores the next evenrng the unrors met the Freshman team anuary 21 and 22 were the brg mghts Prom tly at seven oclock the four classes marche rn The school song ended and the stunts were on hrst the Senrors rn gym unrforms topped by plard shnrts presented therr yersron of f96l Oklabwmz wrth a square dance as an added attractron The unrors qurte notrceable for they all were equrpped wrth bonnets and baby bottles gave therr xersron of the freshmen Nursery rhyme songs pros ed effectrve background musrc Sophomore englneers ftopped wrth red hatsj took rarlroad songs as therr theme and even had a small box car to add to the authentrclty Freshmen 1n therr blu gym surts complete wrth Dutch caps and tulrps took us back to Holland and her vyrndmrlls A tap number by Barbara Burns and Pat Randle added a unrque touch to the stunt On Thursday nrght we had as guest Mr Harry Harnsworth of the Bureau of Recreatxon The bxg nrghts drd I say 2 There was another' Frrday anuary 13th when the vrctorrous unrors won the school ehampronshrp by defeatrng the Senrors 57 33 But we ll be back as Alumnae' FRAN MCHUGH 1' ,K . , f . r - A . . . ry 4 - f . , - A A , - J ., S r. , .. jk If T' - , ' . 1 1 r K , t V' . .' y ,- .'
