The Golf Team, Swings Off To A Good Start -1 . i. i V -iS . ■•jlSS-i. Front row; Don Knight, Pat Broton. Back row: Jim Kniszynski, Mr. Tav lor, Brent Scanlon The second consecutive year for the golf team was a fairly successful one. Although the team had only four members when the season ended, it overcame the handicap, to finish the season with a respectable 2-5 record. The golf coach was Mr. Taylor and team members were Don Knight, Pat Broton, Jim Kruszynski, and Brent Scan- lon. Brent was the teams low scorer and had the privilege of being listed in the honorable mention category of the conference golf list. The golf season runs at the same time that the football sea- son is going hill steam. Most peoples attention is focused on football. Therefore, golf does not receive the recogni- tion that it deserves. If the sport of golf is to survive at Holton, the team must overcome the loss of players. Both Don Knight, and Pat Broton are seniors and will leave two vacant spots to be filled next year. With the lack of interest exhibited in the sport the vacancies could prove to be serious. As an optimistic note, both Brent Scanlon and Jim Krus- zynski will be back next year. If both continue to improve, they could pose a real threat to the other participating golf teams. The major task, which was to get a team started, is over. As each season proves more successful, their ultimate job be- comes easier. That job is to raise enough school spirit to create a large, effective squad of capable people. Who knows, perhaps the girls could join and make a mark for women ' s lib in the world of high school golf. With a summer to practice anything can happen and prob- ably will . . .
