But time cannot alter all and we students of Holton High stayed true to form and held high the belief which was put forth by Samuel Clemens when he said, Soap and educa- tion are not as sudden as a massacre but are far more deadly in the long run. Of course, aside from the usual ac- ademic undertakings the student body was involved with the more important activities such as teacher harassing and desk disassembly to name a few. Also some of the more energetic went out for football, golf, pep band, and play cast. In all the year was shaping up to be a jolly one. And Still The Year Raced On As we shuffled from class to class, the little white flakes of snow drifting gailv around our shoulders, we became con- vinced that winter was upon us literally. The merry month of November was highlighted by the special assembly at which the Friends, a fine musical group, were the guests. Their music left a lasting influence and in the following months many said we were marching to a different drummer. Overall spirits were high and even report cards did nol serve to dampen the evident enthusiasm. J. ' Xfe: -«Sa 3Pn! .7. i?_{ •• n While the winter wind whistled outside, the refs whistles were going full blast inside, what with wrestling and bas- ketball going full steam ahead. What is wrong is not losing. What is wrong is when you lose, not getting up off that floor and coming back and fighting again. And our teams kept coming back with spirit and energy. Old man winter blew out of breath around the half way point of the year, then gathered strength as winter went marching on. The students, however, were impatiently waiting for greener pastures to appear through the white mantle. As We Near The Finish This year was indeed a year for happenings. The many ac- tivities are all over now, the seniors are all gone. The new school is not so new now nor are the teachers. But the joy of new friends, new experiences, and new activities, these are the true happenings. They cannot be captured on film and placed on pages in a yearbook. They can only exist in the dark corners of our minds, to be dusted off by memories. As we go our separate ways, we will always recall the many things we did this year and will always remember it as The Year For Happenings. ADMINISTRATION The Administration Works Mr. Ravmor is the guiding light of the school, as the re- sponsibility for running it falls directly on him. He has been here for a number of vears, and through those vears he has detected a change in the attitude of the students. With the building of the new school, the students are be- coming more responsible and their values and outlooks are coming around for the better. Although there is still the negative element, it is growing smaller. The final step in the ladder of school control is the school boards. These are the elected representatives of the people in the school district. Their hard work and effort is visible in the school todav. Mr. Ravmor lo oking through his fan mail. Seated: Mrs. H. Front row; Don Knight, Pat Broton. Back row: Jim Kniszynski, Mr. Tav lor, Brent Scanlon The second consecutive year for the golf team was a fairly successful one. Although the team had only four members when the season ended, it overcame the handicap, to finish the season with a respectable 2-5 record. The golf coach was Mr. Taylor and team members were Don Knight, Pat Broton, Jim Kruszynski, and Brent Scan- lon. Brent was the teams low scorer and had the privilege of being listed in the honorable mention category of the conference golf list. The golf season runs at the same time that the football sea- son is going hill steam. Most peoples attention is focused on football. Therefore, golf does not receive the recogni- tion that it deserves. If the sport of golf is to survive at Holton, the team must overcome the loss of players. Both Don Knight, and Pat Broton are seniors and will leave two vacant spots to be filled next year. With the lack of interest exhibited in the sport the vacancies could prove to be serious. As an optimistic note, both Brent Scanlon and Jim Krus- zynski will be back next year. If both continue to improve, they could pose a real threat to the other participating golf teams. The major task, which was to get a team started, is over. As each season proves more successful, their ultimate job be- comes easier. That job is to raise enough school spirit to create a large, effective squad of capable people. Who knows, perhaps the girls could join and make a mark for women ' s lib in the world of high school golf. With a summer to practice anything can happen and prob- ably will . . .
