2oa.t of Arms The central part of the coat of arms is a shield divided into fields. Within each field is a hand holding aloft a torch. The larger black field represents the students lack of knowledge. The white field symbolizes truth and light secured at Holston Valley High School. The white torch on the black field burns brightly with the fire and determination of youth. The torch in the white field burns less brightly, but is an older, wiser and steadier flame. The letters H and V above the shield, stand not only for Holston Valley but for Health, Happiness, Valor and Victory as well. The rope extending from the sides of the shield, representing the spirit of our school, shall always be held together in a common cause, namely, to represent and strive to keep above reproach the reputation of our alma mater. Last is the motto found beneath the shield. Veritas Omnia Vincit which translated means Truth Conquers Everything. The entire coat of arms is in black and white, our school colors.
