the boys wore dresses and other odds and ends During the day we appeared in an as sembly and that mght there was more initiation A party followed and then slightly re lieved we were officially admitted into I-hgh School Our Sophomore year again found us busy with studies music clubs and sports Mr Willxam Donnenwirth saw us through both our Freshman and Sophomore years We found our .Tumor year to be the busiest thus far Fxrst of all we selected our class rmgs Then we presented our .Tumor Play entxtled Dear Papa We sold ice crearn on Frxdays and hot dogs pop popcorn and ice cream at basketball games We also sold stationery saved tax stamps and helped the semors publish the Oriole On April 30 our class honored the Semors and faculty members with a banquet at Hotel Hardmg an Marlon Charles Yaussy Violet Steiner and Joel Sponseller becarne mem bers of the National Honor Society and attended the Honor Society banquet held at Mrs Spzegel and co operation of the whole class we left our Junmr year with fond mem ones of our several successes Our Semor and fmal year found Mr Donnenwirth as our advxsor This year Charles Graham enrolled xn our class Early in the fall we received a lot of enjoyment out of imtiatxng the r reshmen and then givmg a party in their honor We also took a trap to Txffxn where we had our pzctures taken and attended an afternoon movie We were busy throughout the year selecting announcements name cards and speakers for Commence ment On April 8 we presented our class play and on April Z9 we were entertained by the Jumor class at a banquet at Hotel Harding We greatly enjoyed the banquet and en tertaxnment provided by the .Tumors After twelve years of happy school days we reached our goal Our Baccalaureate Service was held on May Z2 and Commencement Exercises on May Z9 We were sorry to leave Holrnes Liberty but fond memories will never let us forget all the wonderful experiences fun and knowledge it has gxven us Z1 North Robinson. SENIOR CLASS HlST ORY On a brxght sunny September mormng 1n 1937 twenty four of us excited but st1l1 a lxttle shy began our long career as students at Holmes Liberty School From the orlgznal group eight are completmg the1r schooling at H L These are John Johnson Leona Kalb Dolores Mlller Helen Scheffler Lozs Schxeber Joel Sponseller Violet Stemer and Lols Stetzer Although unacquamted at the begmmng of the year xt wasn t long untxl we began to feel nght at home One of the events that stxcks hzgh m our mxnds IS our partxczpatxon ln the May Day program Violet s foot fell asleep Joel fell in the mud and the May pole ended up ln a mess Our advlsor the fzrst year was Mxss Jessxe Shoaf Durmg our second year Miss Dons Green took over the rems as our mstructor This was the year that John gave an exhxbltxon on holdxng a rabbit s foot under hzs nose What a performance Miss Lena Hexby Henson took over as teacher in our thlrd year ln the sprang a young man s fancy lxghtly turns to thoughts of love and our Thxrd Grade boys were no exceptlon Evldence of thxs was a mock wedding on the baseball diamond at recess Now let s see Who was the br1de'7 l.n the Fourth Grade Mzss Laureen Mauer was our home room teacher We were all happy to pass to the fourth grade but 1n one way we were very dzsappomted No lon ger could we play X s and O s on the desks and chaxrs during rest perlod Reason? No rest perxods This year Chuck Yaussy Jomed our ranks little salesmen came out as champxons rn the annual magamne drive The reward'7 Two boxes of delxcxous peanut clusters Out sxxth and fmal year downstaxrs found a feellng of supenorzty comxng over us for now we were the hlghest class there All the boys seem to remember the mterclass softball games whlch we always won Robert Cress and Arbutus McCall1ster Joined us th1s year After completing one half of our schoolmg we found ourselves ln the mxdst of new surroundlngs for now we were ln Jumor High and upstairs The lockers many teachers and the changing of classes were just a few of the things to which we had to become ac customed Our seventh grade boys gave the entrre school an unscheduled but enjoyable fxre drxll when on one of our journeys through the basement tunnels after performmg the dish washlng one of us trlpped on an unseen cham Result? Fxre drill The boys scared but innocent looklng pretended to try to solve The Mysterious Fire Alarm along wlth the rest of the school In our e1ghth year our class meetmgs were beglnnmg to show some signs of lzfe During one of these meetmgs we were presented vnth some rules and regulations con cernmg good conduct Someone must have received a wrong impression of our class as we were always good little girls and boys Robert Lyons entered our class this year Throughout both of our Junior High years Mxss Mary Trabue acted as our advxsor At last the long awaited year arrxved we were high school students but no one would ever let us forget that we were only Freshxes Thxs mcluded the Semors who after a few weeks of schemmg put us through our xmtxatxon stunts We came to school dressed dxfferently than we had ever dressed before The girls wore overalls and boots Z0 I 'll ' II . PROPHECY Last summer durmg a trlp to Calxforma my frzend and I stayed one mght rn a small Mxd Western town To pass away the evenmg we bought a local paper and ln found the advertzsement of a fortune teller Being eager for unusual excxtement we declded to mvestmgate Arr1v1ng at the fortune teller we found a notxce on the door whlch read Out for the evemng Our cur1os1ty however overruled our cautlon and we trled the door lt was open and there on a table ln the mlddle of the room was the crystal ball We couldn t help taklng a long look into 1ts clear depths As we gazed mto the mysterlous ball we saw many thxngs pass before our eyes Gradually we realzzed we were lookmg 1nto the futures of the members of Holmes Lxberty Class of 49 Lookmg deeper we saw that the year 1959 was just commg m and a party was m full swmg at Graham s Restaurant located on Euclld Avenue Cleveland Oluo We saw ourselves bemg greeted at the door wzth a hearty handshake of Chuck Graham the proprietor He 1nv1ted us to stay for the New Year s Party Among the guests were some of our old classmates who had become very famous One of these was Joel F Sponseller president of the Cleveland Indians After chatting a whlle we found places at a table and whale lookmg at the menu an othe of our fellow classmates came to walt on us lt was none other than Dolores Mrller She told us that she was now the head hostess at Graham s Restaurant Gazmg farther into the crystal ball we saw another classmate Lors Stetzer also 11v1ng ln Cleveland She had recently been promoted to the posmtlon of head nurse m the Cleveland Veteran s hospxtal and seemed to enjoy very much takmg care of the veterans We next saw ourselves leavmg the hospital and catchmg a tra1n to New York We left the tram at Grand Central Statxon and were lookmg for a taxx when we heard a famll 1ar voxce call1ng our names Turmng around we saw our fr1end Helen Scheffler who offered us a r1de We gladly accepted and as we rode down F1fth Avenue she told us that she was now a receptlomst xn New York s fmest mterxor decoratxng company She said she had a surprxse for us and asked us to go along to her place of busmess We gladly accepted the 1nv1tat1on As she stopped her car we saw on the store front Steiner Inter1or Decoratmg Company lnsxde we were really surprxsed for there we found Vlolet actually domg the tlnng she had always spoken of wantmg to do while ln hxgh school Vlolet xnvlted us to dmner at the Waldorf Astor1a Durxng the style show we had an portunlty to greet Arbutus McCall1ster who was modelmg a gorgeous weddmg gown The crystal was changing agam and as the vxsxon cleared we seemed to be entering the B1g Pup Dog Food Corporat1on Company What a name We thought our eyes were playxng trlcks for on the door mt read Charles Yaussy Owner It couldn t possibly be our Chuck owner of thxs company mn Marlon Ohxo but mt was As We entered the off1ce we were greeted by the prlvate secretary Leona Kalb It was the same frlendly Leona we had known back m school she hadn t changed a brt Whxle talking to Charles we found that he had dec1ded that bemg the owner of thls company was more profxtable than belng a math teacher Whxle we were ln Marxon we found ourselves gomg roller skatmg As we entered the skatmg rmk we saw Lofs Sch1eber doxng a fancy back skate routme Chattlng w1th Loxs we found that she was the xnstructor here and had made quxte a success of it ZZ I - - it . . l . . .
