SENIOR CLASS HlST ORY On a brxght sunny September mormng 1n 1937 twenty four of us excited but st1l1 a lxttle shy began our long career as students at Holmes Liberty School From the orlgznal group eight are completmg the1r schooling at H L These are John Johnson Leona Kalb Dolores Mlller Helen Scheffler Lozs Schxeber Joel Sponseller Violet Stemer and Lols Stetzer Although unacquamted at the begmmng of the year xt wasn t long untxl we began to feel nght at home One of the events that stxcks hzgh m our mxnds IS our partxczpatxon ln the May Day program Violet s foot fell asleep Joel fell in the mud and the May pole ended up ln a mess Our advlsor the fzrst year was Mxss Jessxe Shoaf Durmg our second year Miss Dons Green took over the rems as our mstructor This was the year that John gave an exhxbltxon on holdxng a rabbit s foot under hzs nose What a performance Miss Lena Hexby Henson took over as teacher in our thlrd year ln the sprang a young man s fancy lxghtly turns to thoughts of love and our Thxrd Grade boys were no exceptlon Evldence of thxs was a mock wedding on the baseball diamond at recess Now let s see Who was the br1de'7 l.n the Fourth Grade Mzss Laureen Mauer was our home room teacher We were all happy to pass to the fourth grade but 1n one way we were very dzsappomted No lon ger could we play X s and O s on the desks and chaxrs during rest perlod Reason? No rest perxods This year Chuck Yaussy Jomed our ranks little salesmen came out as champxons rn the annual magamne drive The reward'7 Two boxes of delxcxous peanut clusters Out sxxth and fmal year downstaxrs found a feellng of supenorzty comxng over us for now we were the hlghest class there All the boys seem to remember the mterclass softball games whlch we always won Robert Cress and Arbutus McCall1ster Joined us th1s year After completing one half of our schoolmg we found ourselves ln the mxdst of new surroundlngs for now we were ln Jumor High and upstairs The lockers many teachers and the changing of classes were just a few of the things to which we had to become ac customed Our seventh grade boys gave the entrre school an unscheduled but enjoyable fxre drxll when on one of our journeys through the basement tunnels after performmg the dish washlng one of us trlpped on an unseen cham Result? Fxre drill The boys scared but innocent looklng pretended to try to solve The Mysterious Fire Alarm along wlth the rest of the school In our e1ghth year our class meetmgs were beglnnmg to show some signs of lzfe During one of these meetmgs we were presented vnth some rules and regulations con cernmg good conduct Someone must have received a wrong impression of our class as we were always good little girls and boys Robert Lyons entered our class this year Throughout both of our Junior High years Mxss Mary Trabue acted as our advxsor At last the long awaited year arrxved we were high school students but no one would ever let us forget that we were only Freshxes Thxs mcluded the Semors who after a few weeks of schemmg put us through our xmtxatxon stunts We came to school dressed dxfferently than we had ever dressed before The girls wore overalls and boots Z0 I 'll ' II .
