The year ended with Baccalaureate Services'on Sunday night May 16, 1948 and Commencement Exercises on the night of May 21, l948. the boys were dressed ln nlght gowns and the vlrls ln pagamas We carried our books in a sack, and had a large supply of pop corn for the Q6HlOFS We further suffered the indlgnity of havlng to wear our hair l id down with lard That evening we were entertained with a party sponsored by the enlors This ended our enjoyable and memorable lnltiation day Be1ng Freshmen made lt possible for the boys lH the class to take part 1n competitive ports Durlnv our first year of sports we had boys on the baseball, ba ketball, nd track teams Being Qophomores also left ts memorles B111 dankey, and Calvln Taylor Jolned our class thls year All through the year we avlln carrled on our dutles of studylng and actlvltles ln mu 1C classes, clubs, and sports Remember the ral 1U throwlng days? Maybe the whacks from Mr Collars tauvht us to eat the ra1s1ns 1D tead of throwlng them In the fall of 1946 we agaln returned to school, thls time as Junlors Thls year we really put on the steam, slnce it was our next to last year We were agaln found worklng toward our goal Qhortly after the beglnnlnf of the school year we presented HJust Ducky as our Junlor Class Play 1n the school audltorlum In January Jane Wellman Joined our class With the aid of Mrs Qplegel and the work of the glrls, we sold lce cream bars On the night of April 18, 1947 we entertalned the faculty members and the enior Cla s at the ettes of the Future carried out our theme and was very enter tainlng Durlng our Junlor year we were honored by havlno thirteen students attaln membershlp 1n the Natlonal Honor oclety The banquet, whlch admltted the new members, was held at the North Robinson school house on May lO, 1947 We left the Junlor Class w1th some sadness but were glad to have attalned enlor rank Wlth Mr Heft as our clas d visor the year opened with a bang First of all the class gourneyed to Tiffln to hav their graduation pictures tamens Next we found five of our boys on the school baseball team On October 21, the HQOCl3l Llfe class v1s1ted the Ohlo tate Reformatory at Mansfleld Durlnv the Corn chow most of the class members were hard at work 1D the UUSlC Booth At last the winter sport of ba ketball was started This year boys from the clas found places on the teams, flve on the Varsity, and four on the Peserve We think that the class of '48 has one d1StlDCtlOD which 13 solng to be hard to beat ln the future We are the first class 1D the hlstory of Holmes Liberty to boast two ets of twlns, Janet and Jani Chaffer and Genevleve and Burdett Ros man, 1U our numbers Thls year we avaln found plea ure 1n preparlng and pre senting our oSDlOP Class Play HThe Valley of the Ghosts the school audltorlum On the nlght of lprll 30, 1948 we were entertalned at the Junior CGHIOT Banquet sponsored by the Junlors The Banquet was held xt the Hardlng Hotel ln Marlon We greatly engoyed the entertainment provlded by the Junlors This year Mr Qollars gave the speech whlch was well received by all who attended 0 I O U 9 - .n ' ' ' 1, f pf.. x , . 5- l ' . stewardess prepared us hot coffee after which most of us dozed for a while We were suddenly awakened by the weirdest and most startlinv of sounds We llstened, and it 896060 to Ho on end lessly At last we were able to determlne that the stranne sound was a farmer calling his hoes We looked throuph the mist and saw the outline of a farm house not many rods away Since Kermie thought lt mivht be well to lnqulre of the farmer as to our exact location, we OPC1d8O to tag alonv and inhale a bit of the MOTUIUV air We found the farmer very enervetically feeflnv h1s Hereford hogs, and as we drew nearer to him, we recognize the +8m1l18P stride of Charles Anthony We were warmly welcomed lnto his farm home to meet his wlfe and the five little Anthonys Chuck told us that he had been a resldent of Tennessee for elght years We were lnvited to breakfast with the Anthonys after whlch we thanked them and were once more on our fa Our next stop was ln the little town of Marietta, Georgia, where we V1SltCO the Grade school Here the princlpal of the school, Joyce mcCallister, dlsplaylng her best southern hospital ity, invited us to remaln w1th her for the evening We noticed Joyce had quite easlly adopted the Qouthern drawl Later that evening sittinv beneath the mavnolla trees, Joyce told us that her school day svretheart, Glenn Spiegel was in New iexico Armed wlth this lnformatlon the next mornlnv iound us flylnp South to vislt our pal, Glenn There we found hlm down under the earth, explorlnv the hidden city, trylnv to C1SCOVCT if snow banks had existed ln prehlstoric days In the air once again, w auided our plane to the Lone Star state G18HC1D2 out of the W1DCOW, Margorie notlccd the letterinp on a barn roof whlch read, 'Spievel and 1cDowell Dude Ranch H After c1rcl1n the pasture field 1n search of a landing place we found a level soot, landed, ant dashed toward the reg istrar's office Before we had a chance to inquire where John Rossman, the receptionlst After several hours walt, John and Wayne came trollinv in wearlna wide orim hats and shlny boots Ve were greeted with hearty nHowdy Pardners and lnvlted to stay for the square dance which was to follow the 6VCUlDg'S entertalnment According to posters d1splayed ln the ranch o fice, the evening's entertainmen fC3tUPtO the Nankey Troupe of Torevdors Nas it B111 Mankey of H L days? Yes! but definitely!
