Mu Alpha Theta is the math honor so- ciety. To be a member the student must have a strong average in math and the other subjects. The purpose of M A T is to promote interest in math. A new program this year is the intra- mural math competition in which teams of students compete against each other. Winners were Veronica Schcidt. Lucy Fetner. and Frances Balcom. Many members participated and did well in a number of math tournaments. The tournaments included Pasadena in Houston. Keystone. Roosevelt. Alamo Heights and ADCTM. 4 3. Debaters in Regional Meet The Debate Club is designed to train students to effectively express their views and analyze what others say. Debate also teaches the students that there are two sides to every issue that should be considered. Debate is an enriching educational experience, because each year a national issue is considered. The 1974-75 debate topic was the method of selecting presidential and vice-presidential candidates. 1.
