Gavel Rated in Top Ten The Holmes Gavel received an Award of Dis- tinguished Merit, the highest given, at the Intcr- scholastic League Press Conference in Austin, March 22,1975. Kim Cobb, editor of the paper, says, “After a year of hard work it was very gratifying to receive the rating. That was one of our goals for this year.” Out of fifty large AAAA school newspapers in its category from across the state, The Gavel was one of ten chosen for this top ranking. Only one other San Antonio high school paper received this rating. “This is the fifth time in the last nine years that we have received the Distinguished Merit Award,” said a proud Mr. Cal Inman, newspaper sponsor. Phil Tolstead, Steve Horn, Lucy Fetner, Editor Kim Cobb and Sports Editor Reed Ramlow lay out pages for the last Gavel edition. Journalism I students Wendy Morgan, Jean Vogels and Uma Pemmaraju aid Robert Cole, page editor, in putting together a page in the paper. The Gavel staff was joined by the Justice staff in celebrating Christmas at Shakey’s. 164
