IN MEMORIAM OSCAR OF Tl-IE SCHOOL STORE September, I 943-January, I 944 By TOM D WILLIAMS Students and teachers of the Senior Class, We have come to bury Oscar, at last. None of us would know what to pray, So I just whipped up these few words to say. Oscar lived a life of great fear, Every time he come out, I-loward was near. Oscar was the Senior's life long pet, Not just an ordinary rat. I-lis Iife's ambition was to be free, But l-loward wouldn't let him, would he? We hope I-loward's conscience don't hurt him Although this occasion makes us very sad. Another enemy of Oscar was John Rooks, John often hit Oscar with a stack of books. You might think this funeral silly, But we don't think so, really. Oscar died in the line of duty Friday night, So we will mark his grave as a historic site. We would now like to sing a song, But l've already made my sermon too long, Now as we lay Oscar into his grave, Let's all be strong, bold, and brave. too I.-ad, There comes a time in everyone's life when there is sorrow But don't worry, we can find another Mascot today or tomorrow Surrounded by a Saddened Senior Class and countless underclassmen Oscar the Senior Class Mascot was laid to rest in state on a tiny knoll south of the building on January 25 I944 by the Reverend Tom D Williams, Deacons Roger Sellers, and Morris Chesnut and grave-digger Earl Bush.
