l l 1 x l i l ' l On May 21, 1948 the Stars and Stripes was raised on the newly erected flagpole in memory of Pfc. Harold A. Burton, the only student of the college to lose his life in World War II. The dedicatory ceremony under the direction of Mr. S. Lee Braxton, President of the Holmes Alumni Association, was preceded by an address by Congressman Joseph R. Bryson. Ex-service men, now students at the college, participated, in the ceremony. Congressman Bryson presented an official United States flag for the occasion which had been Hown over the dome of the 'nationls Capitol building, Private Burton's mother, Mrs. E. E. Burton, placed a wreath on the plaque and Dr. Paul F. Beacham closed the ceremony with prayer.
