In 1937 the little side porch was walled in, making it into an office. Three or four years later Rev. and Mrs. Beacham moved from the White House to their own home. Mrs. Nina C. Holmes stayed on in the room which has served as her abode for thirty years, and through the years girl students have lived in the building. - Now the White Housel' has been remodeled. The new brick-veneer building has two apartments, live dormitory rooms, three baths, a library and a book repair room, a main office, Deanas oflice, editorial room, a reception room, three classrooms, a laboratory. The White H ouse becomes The Lucy Holmes Memorial THE WHITE HOUSE In 1915 Mrs. N. J. Holmes, wife of the founder of the school, purchased the building at II 5 Briggs Avenue, and later the building was used as her home. With Rev. and Mrs. Holmes came Rev. and Mrs. P. F. Beacham, Mrs. Nina C. Holmes, and a gro-up of students from the Altamont Institute to make their abode on the corner of Briggs and Buncombe. Rev. Holmes passed to his reward in 1919, and when Mrs. Holmes followed him approximately three years later, the property was left to the school. Through the years the building gradually became known by the affectionate title, The White Housef'
