Through the years it has sent out a multitude of Christian Workers trained to labor in the various fields of the Lordls vineyard, who are fulhlling the spirit of the institution by Uliving for othersf' The institution has grown steadily and stands now, as it has, through the years, endowed solely and abundantly with the rich 'blessing of the same kind, loving Father who led Rev. Holmes to establish the school. May this great power for good continue in the world until Christ shall come to claim His own. PAUL F. BEACHAM, D.D. PAUL F, BEACHAM As a wind sweeping over the desert, time may cause the past to fade, but a character molded by the hand of God and used by Him for a bright and shining light among His people cannot soon fade away. Mrs, Paul F. Beacham, the devoted companion of our presi- dent, departed this life August 2, 1947, having completed a full life of service to this institution, the world, and God in teaching, preaching, and befriending others. Our memory of her will grow sweeter as the fragrance of her godly life continues to bless others. The White H ouse becomes The Lucy Holmes Memorial THE WHITE HOUSE In 1915 Mrs. N. J. Holmes, wife of the founder of the school, purchased the building at II 5 Briggs Avenue, and later the building was used as her home. With Rev. and Mrs. Holmes came Rev. and Mrs. P. F. Beacham, Mrs. Nina C. Holmes, and a gro-up of students from the Altamont Institute to make their abode on the corner of Briggs and Buncombe. Rev. Holmes passed to his reward in 1919, and when Mrs. Holmes followed him approximately three years later, the property was left to the school. Through the years the building gradually became known by the affectionate title, The White Housef' In 1937 the little side porch was walled in, making it into an office. Three or four years later Rev. and Mrs. Beacham moved from the White House to their own home. Mrs. Nina C. Holmes stayed on in the room which has served as her abode for thirty years, and through the years girl students have lived in the building. - Now the White Housel' has been remodeled. The new brick-veneer building has two apartments, live dormitory rooms, three baths, a library and a book repair room, a main office, Deanas oflice, editorial room, a reception room, three classrooms, a laboratory. It is now known as the Lucy Holmes Memorial. An entire new history has begun. When the Greenville Weather permits, they enjoy picnics on Paris mountain, with a special program and games. A delightful time of fellowship is enjoyed at the Christmas and Easter seasons, with pro- grams enlivened by the humor of girls from all sections of the country. A period of devotion is held at each meeting. This year the girls have as a special project the makinggof a quilt to be given to Aunt Nina for the guest room on her birthday. Its functions consist of monthly meetings which give the boys a few minutes respite from their studies. The main business of these meetings is .to prepare for the outings which carry them to the invigorating air and playgrounds of Paris Mountain in the State Park. When an after- noon has been spent in strenuous muscular and vocal exercises, the Forum assembles to partake of appetizing meals which have been prepared by the Forum cooks. Immediately following the feast, gr program is ushered in that causes all cares to be forgotten. Amid devotional readings and talks, special songs, prayer, impromptu speeches, and acts, one finds both edification and enjoy- ment. Another high light of the Forum is the annual Christmas program. It is featured by special Christmas music, talks, and plays. These activities prove to be of great help in obtaining their objective. Z ,. F 5 E I 1 -I ':'.
