Two able photographers fthough nei- ther will admit that the other knows which end of a camera is upj, Mike Sugar and joel Lowell have sup- plied most of the pictures. john Slosser, known to his grateful advisor fwho is writing this storyj as old reliable, has been a jack-ofiall-trades, tracking down identifications, writing sports and other stories, and generally keeping the pot boiling. Midway in the semester, jim Foley, with nothing better to do during a free sixth period, began hanging around yearbook headquarters and was put to work as a welcome volunteer. Dann Boyd wrote the football resume for us, and other athletes helped us out at crucial moments, to say nothing of the co-operation welve received from Student Council members, inter- ested students, faculty, and just about everyone else whom we have pressed into service. i -ki. In Journalism I, student reporters cover news assignments and learn the elements of proofreading, page layout, head- lines and advertising. In Advanced Journalism, the emphasis is on feature and editorial writing. The third semester of Beginning Staff, Fall Semester. Row I: Tijana Iltch, Karen Iversen, Alan Levine, Bill Mafcon, Kathy Sugino, Ed Laboufitzg Row 2: Kay Lucich, Elaine Leia, Dennis Brody, Iohn Conoverg Row 3: Tony Polito, Hector Esquiro, Art Patterson, Mike Becker, 24 journalism, known as Executive News Staff, gives students the actual responsibility for putting out the HHS News. The Spring Semester saw the Journalism Department ini- tiate a series of noon forums, among the speakers being Dr. Vierling Kersey. Hollywood chapter of Quill and Scroll has, each semester, sponsored a Meet the Press assembly for the entire school. Speakers have included Mr. Dan Moore, editor of the Student Outlookf published by the Los Angeles Times, and Mr. Bill Stout, noted TV newscaster and a Holly- wood alumnus. Fall Semester Stage Crew. Row 1: Behar, Schu ' GAA Lettergirls earn their insignia on a point system combining activity, proficiency and time. maeher, Genovese, Farber, Michelg Row 2: Lew! Hooker, Savagep Row 3: Maltcheff, Murphy, Zimno voda, Mr. Wilson. The Girls' Athletic Association is by far the largest club at Hollywood, with well over a hundred members. It offers opportunities to participate in a wide range of team and individual sports. Opportunities unlimited is HollyWood's is l o g a n when it comes to club and organizational activity. If a club that caters to your special interest doesnlt exist, all you need do is look for kind- red souls, find a sponsor and you are in business. Active groups op- erate in many fields. There is the C h e s s Club, with its non-stop games, its tournaments, and its proud city championship. Our den of amateur magicians threatens to make the whole school disappear any day now. And the Motion Picture Club appears to be assem- bling the worl 's longest newsreel which, someday, they promise to show us. Auditorium and cafe- teria management crews offer many opportunities for service. And AFS works hard to bring to our campus a foreign exchange student each semester. The House Force of Linder, DuVall, Keller, Dagger, Bingham, Leggitt, Riddell, ' U Lee, Dimitroff, Stephens, manages Holly- The hard-working Cafeterza Crew consists of Art Steph- urggd'-5' large auditorium, ens, Don Gazin, Mae Hurd, Greg Cox, David Mussey, Mamie Hurd, Teresa Kelly, Tom Fadden, Dennis Amoson, and lack Present. 26
