Language In our rapidly shrinking world the need for proficiency in a language other than one's native tongue becomes ever more imperative. Students at Hollywood may pursue, through the eighth semester level, courses in Latin, French, German and Spanish. These are expertly taught by Mrs. Padbury, Mrs. Raymond, top left, Mrs. Gagan and Mr. Smith, bottom left, and by the camera-shy Mrs. Speicher, Mrs. Prest and Mr. Gottlieb. Business For those students who expect to go into the world of business, Hollywood offers a strong curriculum in Business Education, taught by experts in their fields: Miss Nishioaka, Mr. Corian and Miss Winkler, whose pictures appear on the right, and Mrs. Kent. Driver Education Under' State Law, Driver Education is a graduation requirement in all California high schools. Upholding the law and, perhaps more impor- tant, helping to make our streets and highways safer, are Mr. Long and Mr. Maryott, smiling at you from the right. Hornernaking Shakespeare declared that of earthly goods, the best is a good wife. Under the guidance of Mrs. Baird, Mrs. 6 Van Sickle and Miss Bird, pictured at the right, the girls of Hollywood should find no difiiculty in becom- ing best in the all-important field of Homemaking. Administration Upon the shoulders of the administrators of our schools lie great responsibilities. The responsi- bilities imposed upon them by law are staggering enough. More important is the moral responsi- bility to provide educational leadership. This responsibility the administrators of Hollywood High School have never shirked. In one short year, Mr. Hamerman has brought us a new sense of purpose and direction, Miss Standfast and Mr. Crawford have redoubled their efforts to show us what it truly means to Achieve the Honorable. MISS BERTHA STANDFAST MR. RALPH CRAWFORD Girls' Vice-principal Boys' Vice-principal MR ARTHUR TANNER MR. FRANK RUSSELL Registrar Head Counselor MR. SAM HAMERMAN Principal NOT TO BE FORGOTTEN . . . Principal, Vice-principals, teachers and students would be hard put to it to func- tion in their respective spheres were it not for that large group of conscientious men and women who attend to the thousand and one details involved in the running of a large metropolitan high school. And so, a grateful saluate to our school secretary, Miss Lucy Pastore, to Mrs. Vivian Bryden, Mrs. Lucille Clements, Mrs. Lillian Fel- lows, Miss Helene Homuth, Mrs. Grace Jacklin, Miss Annie Kendrick and Mrs. Margaret Taylor . . . To our school nurse, Miss Shirley Merkling . . . To Mr. Herman Smith and his loyal workers in the cafe- teria . . . And far from last, to Mr. Paul Parkinson, head custodian, and his expert crew . . .
