Seniors Row 'I' Cleft to rightl Jack Gmelich, Bob Kelly, Jim Minock, Ray Brendel, Lynn Carnes, Bill Wagoner. Row 2 Gerry Samuel, Stan Young, Bill Kramer. The seniors were a strong backbone on this season's football team. Co-captain .lack Gmelich was defensive signal caller from his tackle spot. His l95 pounds were very useful on both offense and defense. Gmelich's specialty, the tackle eligible pass play, was responsible for several extra points and he demonstrated his versatility by throwing a touchdown pass in the Ortonville game. End Bill Wagoner was another 60 minute man. He threw passes, cauglt passes, and starred defen- sively. He was given honorable mention on one all-state football team. Jim Minock was a very dependable center. lt could even be said that Minock didn't get off a bad pass all season. On defense Minock was a stalwart linebacker. Bob Kelly worked both offense and defense at his guard spot. Kelly got little publicity but his assignment was always carried out. Stan Young played fullback and defensive center. He did a good iob when called on at fullback, and was outstanding on defense. His iarring tackles behind the scrimmage line contributed much to the Bronchos' success. His best game was the Milford game in which he made a touchdown and was a defensive standout. Lynn Carnes was 'Old D.ependable at tackle. Always there and ready' describes him. Herb Aldrich didn't come out until midseason but from then on he was very useful in spelling Wagoner and Huber on offense, and in filling his slot in defense. Bill Kramer was the backfield's speed merchant. He could be counted on to run back kick-offs and punts, and to take the ball on quick-opening plays through the line. Kramer showed his stuff in the Northville game with a 39 yard run and another run of 27 yards. Jerry Samuel was playing his first year at'right half and didn't get in much game time until Wilbur Hillman sprained an ankle at midseason. Samuel made good his chance and stayed in the starting lineup for the rest of the season to become known as a dependable hard driving ground gainer. His best game was the big one against Fenton in whicfl he picked up 32 yards from scrimmage. Ray Brendel, a hard working guard, was hampered a few weeks by injuries but still managed to get in some good football. Ed Mayers came out late and didn't get a chance to reach his peak. Ed was one of the fastest men on the team and was known as a hard worker. Don Bremer had a starting end assignment sewed up, but broke a leg in the first game and was out for the rest of the season. To a full and prosperous future, LANKIN COAL AND SUPPLY COMPANY
