Row 3 Coach Joe Salisbury, Dick Smith, Ed Mix, Bob VanAuken, Gerry Samuel, Jim Woodward, Bob Kelly, Lynn Carnes, Stan Young, Jim Minock, Bill Wagoner, Jack Gmelich, Coach Reese Prefz, ln i952 Holly ran through an undefeated football season for the first time in twenty years. The Bronchos opened the season by winning a close one from Grand Blanc l3-l2. From there the team caught fire and rolled to six easy victories before ending the perfect season with a pair of one point wins, 8-7 over Keego, and 7-6 from arch rival, Fenton. The veteran Holly team with thirteen seniors was strong offensively. Their specialty was an end to end pass play from Wagoner to Huber. Even more outstanding was the stone wall defense sparked by those vital cogs, co-captains Smith and Gmelich, aided especially by Wells and Young. Coach Reese Protz and line coach Joe Salisbury did a fine iob of putting Holly back an the football map. ln the last four years under Protz, Holly has gone from an also ran' to a spot in the state Class B ratings. This year in one poll they were rated second in the state out of l58 teams in their class. This year also brought the Bronchos their first Wayne-Oakland League football championship. The team was honored with a football bust in Flint at the end of the season. The townspeople sponsoring the bust also gave each player a silver football. Earl Garner and Ralph Wells were chosen to lead next year's team.
