Through the Executive Council, which is composed of representa- tives from each class who are elected by the student body, the students have greater responsibility in the management of student affairs. Under the leadership of Lowry Davidson, this yearis Executive Council has concentrated the major part of its efforts upon stimulating in the student body an active interest in Student Government. Because it is the privilege of each Hollins girl to contribute to the growth of this government the Council has wished each girl to feel that her discussion, constructive criticism, and suggestions are both helpful and necessary, only then may she realize that Student Government is hers, that her individual responsibility and attitude are integral parts of the association as a whole. This Council has hoped to achieve by holding at opportune times throughout the year group meetings of the old students as well as the new, by sponsoring class meetings in which Student Government representativescould give reports of its activities and encourage a group discussion of Student Govern- ment progress, and by allowing for the participation of a greater number of under- classmen in major offices. In addition, Council has conferred with the Student Government officers of surrounding Womenis colleges about the organization and problems of their governments. Council also has begun work on a written record of the thirty years' history of the Hollins Student Government Association. if 74 .ya LEGISLATIVE ie YLDLIA ECHOLS .................... ..... The Joint Legislative Committee, the youngest of the three branches of Student Government, provides a common meeting ground for faculty, adminis- trative, and student opinions. Petitions from any individual or group on campus are considered by the Committee, and, if passed by the Committee and approved by President Randolph, are drafted into the body of student regulations. This year the Joint Legislative Committee ,has been interested in studying the working of the new and revised Handbook. It has reviewed this Handbook carefully, and received suggestions and petitions from the student body. The Committee has also kept alive interest in solving the numerous problems of campus life which have arisen during the War Period. -tl 75 is MIDGE DEMAREST Chairman B. K.
