Q In this Centennial year of Hollins wc flll'l1 to evaluate our heritage, and we do not find it wanting. The present, with the best of what has been, has come up slowly out of the past, out of a hundred turn- ings from crispen autumn to vibrant spring. Shadows that no longer count the hours upon a garden sun dial lengthen across our lives, and the rustling of skirts long since still, echoes down these halls. In this volume of rlllfili SPINSTER we have sought to recapture, not only the intermingling of past and present, but also the more excellent of those images that make this year memorable. We have done this with the hope that from our efforts something of noble note may yet be added to the heritage of Hollins. in Eg g 5 K: 1 zb- :::Q ::E ? The organization was founded in IQO3 by a group of Hollins girls who felt the need of some society which should embody the high ideals by which they sought to live. Though the organization has undergone many Changes, it still strives to achieve the loveliness of the Goddess Freya, after which it was named. Figures in a Dream was this yea1 s lliay Day celebration, presented by Freya, llflay 17th, during the Centennial Celebration. Studying top-ranking ,year books from other colleges, each member of the staff not only helped in the Hnal arrangement of TH E Sl'1NS'l'12R but also worked out ideas for her own section. Even those publication jittersn came under no editorial priorities, but were shared and shared alike. By selling subscriptions to alumnaz, and by receiving additional financial aid from the Student Government Association, the staff has been able to include the Centennial Celebration in this year's issue. Though this addition necessitated breaking the tra- dition that SPINSTERS always come out on lyiay Day, we believe that the postponed debut of our book was more than justified since it permitted us to conclude with the Centennial itself, climax of the 1941-1942 session. +24 104 R+ FIRST SECON ROVV : CYNT1-UA COLLINGS . . Keller is decorated in season, and VValter Comedy's colored band swings a mean beat, while the dates pin on their eorsages and the stags move in like wolves and try to give their Signa Phi Nothing pins away.
