Before coming to Hollidaysburg, Mr. Kormanski received a Bach- elor of Science degree from Lock Haven State College and did his graduate work at Pennsylvania State University, where he earned a Master of Education degree. Mr. Kormanski came to Hollidaysburg in 1965. Although he has been in H-burg only two short years, he has left a distinct impression on our class. His guidance and assistance in helping us decide what our future plans will be has been invaluable. We know of no better way of expressing our gratitude than to dedi- cate the memories recorded in these pages to Mr. Kormanski. 5 wfwrwnw ? ww A gqognzbzkfrafzbn 91113 oqzrzlny IQQ years In QSQMQF ity! As of July 1, 1966, the seven districts which had formerly comprised the Hollidaysburg Community Joint School system became non-existent. With the merger of the districts into one compact organization, the Board of Education was also condensed into a smaller, more efficient body. The new Board, which is the administrative branch of our school system, is responsible for the education of every child of school age in this area. Through the guidance and work of the Board of Edu- cation, the Hollidaysburg Area School system has become a new and vital part of our lives. l l l x l 4 U r Education is a lifelong endeavor to gain some understanding of the World, and thus achieve a measure of control over one's experience in it. We encourage you to continue to examine the attempts of earlier men to how they have extended and unified their experiences in Works of literature, music, and art. Education is basic to our survival during the technological revolution which is continuing throughout the World today. We challenge you, the Class of 1967, to be creative, to he understanding, and to walk with dignity into your future. John M. Hillkirk, Ed.D. Supt. of Schools r V f ' ' 44:9 , sm QA X2 if f,f- n MRS. SELLERS The guidance department merits the grat- itude of the entire class of 1967. Mr. Kor- manski and Mrs. Sellers have devoted much of their time to aid in the selections of courses, colleges, and future occupations. MR. KORMANSKI QQ Today your cherished dreams have come to fruition. You are now graduates of the Hollidaysburg Area Senior High School. For many, graduation from high school is only the beginningg while for others it represents the termination of formal edu- cation. Regardless of what you may do in the future, your parents, teachers, and other responsible members of society have attempted to influence your lives along constructive lines. Throughout your school career, your teachers have attempted to inculcate in your lives responsible citizen- ship, self-discipline, high standards of con- duct, and the pursuance of excellence. As graduates of our high school and the citizens of tomorrow, you should re- member the responsibilities and the at- tributes of a good citizen. May I remind you to be true, loyal, and patriotic Americans by assuming your civic responsibilities, but never blindly following the crowd. With the able leadership of the class officers, Fred Marchi, Pres.g Scott Shoenfelt, V. Pres.g Patty Hecker, Sec.g Staci Heverly, Treas.g the future senior class involved themselves in many activities. The sale of Christmas cards, the Junior Class Play, the class party and the 1967 Junior-Senior Prom required much of the energy and enthusiasm of the class. Since its origin forty- four years ago, the Chimrock has symbolized the ulti- mate in secondary journalism. The limitless amount of time, patience and interest dedicated to this publication by the advisor, Mr. Jay Garver and the members of the staffs, created the value of this book which will be cherished by many for the years henceforth. Working to meet deadlines, the editors and staff have hoped that they may present to their 72 classmates a yearbook that is filled with warm memories. The students who have prepared this book wish again to recognize the selfless devotion of Mr. Garver. Under his advice the best and most comprehensive yearbook H.A.H.S. has seen ir1 years has been given to the students. But one must remember, the Chimrock is not a product of one person's or one group's efforts. Instead, it is the result of fine teamwork among the staffs and an invaluable advisor, Mr. Garver. To boys interested in modern, practical ideas of farming, the Future Farmers of America, under the sponsorship of Mr. Cherry, offers concrete and down-to-earth advice. The club endeavors to dis- cover through discussion and research the best, cheapest, and the newest methods of farming. The young agriculturists tested milk and soil, discussed farming methods and machinery, and studied crop 86 rotation. This year several member of this organization won honors at the State farm show in Harrisburg. With the most important occupation of the world in the hands of people so capable, agricultural standards of America should be raised to greater heights than ever before. 975.92561 T Row 1 left to right-J. A new program which has been instituted in Hollidays- burg is the Building and Ground Maintenance course. This curriculum is designed to teach boys a trade in the art of supervision and main- tenance of grounds and build- ings. The course, which was started by Dr. Robert Walk- er, is the only such program in the state, and as far as it is known, is the only one of its kind in the country. The curriculum is a part of the vocational agriculture pro- gram. An equal part of the time is spent in the classroom and in the shop. 87 enzbr Oli? Row I, left to right-E. Moughemer, C. Clapper, J. The Band represents individual and group achievement. Each member of this respective organization must measure up to certain stand- ards as individual musicians. Then these per- sonalities and temperaments are forged into a musical unit. As this is no small accomplish- ment on the part of the members or their conductor, Mr. Trcese, the school must be justly proud of her Hollidaysburg Blue Band. Each fall, those who see and hear the band in its trim military regalia, during the football season, are impressed with the enthusiasm aroused by music. Those seriously interested in music are given an opportunity to play with other schools in the district and county band. The Musical activities of the Blue Band are conducted for the betterment and advancement of Pennsylvanials public school music. In scoring a 262 point total the Blue and White forged the best county slate. The Tigers were named Outstanding Team in the Central Counties League. Coach Dively said, This year's team had to be one of the finest I have ever had the pleasure to coach. The boys had great determination and were very co-opera- tivef' Coach Gallagher reported, 'The boys had a real desire to win and improved with every gamefl Leading the brunt of the attack were halfbacks John Mc- Donald and Tom Muldoon. Muldoon was the team's lead- ing groundgainer. Marshall Wagner and Don Bookhammer were given a Big H337' honorable mention. After traveling to Lewistown the Colden Tigers just couldnit get started and dropped a 28-0 decision to the future Vifestern Conference Champs. With a dim future in sight the Tigers surprised the hometown crowd the next week against Central. Tom Mul- doon gained 141 yards. The defense was particularly strong allowing the Dragons to cross the 50 yard line only once. In a strictly defensive effort the fast improving Blue and White next defeated formerly unbeaten Chief Logan. Dave Diehl ran back a punt return 56 yards to set up the only touchdown. With nine seconds remaining Bob Weyant scored a safety. The next week a high punt by John Kimble set up a safety for Ray Yeager when the pigskin sailed over the head of a Philipsburg man. The Mounties just couldnit .move against the formidable Golden Tiger line. A partially blocked punt set up the first td and the Tigers were on 1w'C7 .N victory number three with an excellent second half perform- ZDCC. The HHS men, traveling to Central Cambria, scored two quick touchdowns in the first half on their way to victory four. Dave Mauro made a sensational 59 yard td run. The following week the Blue and Wlrite pulled the feathers out of the Indiana Indians' headpiece, winning Where have all the Tigers gone? 31-7. Moving the ball at will, John Kimble and Bob Weyani Defense mauls opposition for another loss. were leading ground-gainers. The passing attack was un- usually strong as Dave Mauro completed three for 98 yards. After a slow first quarter the Divelymen turned it on in the second quarter to thrill the hometown fans at the Mount Union game. Marshall Wagner trapped a Trojan back for a safety on the first play. The defense was again outstand- ing holding the Trojans to a -11 yards rushing. Win number seven came against Huntingdon as the Blue and White had another outstanding night. A 35 yard Mauro to Kimble pass set up a touchdown. Later Tom Muldoon behind fine blocking scampered 28 yards for td number two. The Tigers next made life miserable for DuBois. John McDonald ran 40 yards to make the scoreboard read 7-0. Two serim later John again sprinted, this time 58 yards for his second td, and later he made a third. Mauro scored twice and Weyant had one td. On the first running play John Kimble broke loose for a 57 yard run against archrival Tyrone. Muldoon had two and Weyant had one. In rolling up this impressive record the Divelymen showed determination and stamina. We know that with lots of hard work and spirit the 1968 squad will do equally as well. 97 . J . f ' . C,e12fraf45-4 The 1966-67 wrestling season was a rather tiring one for the Golden Tiger matmen as they compiled a 4-6 record. The team had a great start but the last half of the schedule proved disappointing. Hollidaysburg opened the season at home with an impressive win over Moshannon Valley 32-21. However, the next week our grapplers were setback 26-20 by Philipsburg even though the Tigers won four out of the last five bouts. In the only close match that they won all year the Tigers got by Huntington 24-21 and then went on to win their third in four starts at the expense of Everett- Southern 30-14. Over the Christmas Vacation, the wrestlers par- ticipated in the Holliday Tournament and won second place, while Indiana took top honors. The New Year turned out to be a had year as the Golden Tigers went down to a 30-14 defeat at the hands of the Johnstown Trojans. Marshall Wag- ner went to his first and only defeat. In a very exciting and bitterly fought match at home, the tial' Victory is Sweet' H-burgers were nipped by Indiana 23-19. Victory continued to elude the Tigers as they met Altoona and were decked 34--15. The only bright spot in the match was that Jeff Woodcock remained un- beaten in dual meets with a streak of nine vic- tories. Mount Union then defeated Hollidaysburg 21-15 and in the final home match of the season Tyrone had control all the way and overpowered T104-M the Tigers 29-9. The team was led by the skills of Wade Schaller, who compiled a perfect 12-0 record which included seven pins, and by John McDonald, who had a record of 5-0-1. The County Seat J.V.ls started out with a win over Moshannon Valley which was followed by two consecutive losses at the hands of Philipshurg and Huntingdon. Their winning ways were continued by defeating Everett, Johnstown, and Indiana. The following week they were humped off by State College. The Baby Tigers started another three match win streak which included Altoona, Mount Union, and State College. Under the expert guidance of a new coach, Mr. Gooderham, the Colden Tigers wound up a fine 11-11 record in regular season play. ln first cycle action the Tigers started out slow. But refusing to take a back seat to anyone the Blue and White bounced back in the first game of the second cycle to top Lewistown. With a big defensive effort by Randy Schroeder and Paul Nash along with the always able shooting of John Kimble the Tigers next won an upset victory over Huntingdon. After an easier victory at the ex- pense of Tyrone the B-ballers of Coach Cooderham found themselves in sole possession of first place in the Mountain League for the second cyclewa complete reversal of the first cycle action. ln undoubtedly the most exciting duel of the season H-Burg defeated the Scarlet Dragons of Central in a double overtime. As the year progressed the Baby Tigers gained the knowledge and fundamental skills which will be a necessity in their future varsity careers. The J.V.'s boasting a balanced squad were able to compile a fine 13-9 record. The squad coached by Mr. Jones was able to pull many close victories. Some of these were won by only a few points. All the losses were by slim margins. But if the performances of Dex Meadows, Denny O'Conner, Russ Wade, Randy Cummings, Bob Carey, Walter Laret, and all the others are any indication, the quality of basketball at Hollidaysburg High is on an upswing. Clunt An essential part of sports includes the cheerleaders, both Varsity and Junior Varsity. This year the squads were composed of sixteen girls who were chosen at the end of the 65-66 school season. These girls were assigned the task of maintaining school spirit through both victory and defeat. This was accomplished through pep rallies, bulletin boards, service projects, and candy sales. The Varsity squad brought honor to the school hy hringing home a third place trophy from the Cheerleading Contest that was held at the Jaffa Mosque in Decemher. An asset to the squad during football season was their cute little mascot, Luanne Allinder, who showed as much enthusiasm as the older members of the squad. D. S. R. D. C. S. The Hollidaysburg High school baseball team of 1966 brought glory to themselves and their school as they won the Blair County championship. After losing the opening game of the season to Tyrone 4-3, the Golden Tigers defeated Altoona in a non-league game 8-0. Pitcher John Leamer allowed only two hits as he shut out the Lions. Back in league action H-Burg topped Bellwood 4-1, Williamsburg 5-2, and then dumped unbeaten Clays- burg 5-4. ln the second meeting with Tyrone Jim Roseman hurled a one hitter as the Tigers prevailed 4-0. The Blue and W'hite Diamondmen continued on their winning ways as they racked up victories over Bellwood 5-l, Central 7-4, Williamsburg 16-3, and lI2 Central again 9-4. After eight straight league victories Claysburg defeated the Tigers 4-3 throwing the league into a three way tie between Claysburg, Tyrone, and Hollidaysburg. Before the playoffs began the Altoona Mountains gained revenge by belting the Tigers 7-3. ln the first game of the playoffs for the league championship H-Burg bumped Claysburg 5-3 and went on to meet Tyrone. ln the last half of the seventh inning the Tigers found themselves behind 7-3. With one out Hollidays- burg had pulled up to within one run of Golden Eagles on three singles and two Tyrone errors. With two men on Leamer drilled a triple to score the winning runs and gave the Tigers the championship. The Junior Varsity MA squad opened the season by edging Bellwood-Antis by a score of 8-6. The second game saw Hollidaysburg defeat Central 8-3. The final game for the A team saw Danny Ingram miss a no-hitter by a scratch hit over the bag at third base with outs in the bottom of the seventh inning which gave the Jayvees a 3-1 victory over Williamsburg. The Junior Varsity HBJ' team was successful in its three games with two wins over Cove and a no-hitter by Denny O'Conner over Roaring Spring. JV BASEBALL. Row 1: D. DeCOSkey, J. McDonald, D. Such teams as Cresson, Everett, Huntingdon, S. Huntingdon, and Tyrone were conquered. The squad of over 40 boys also participated in the Juniata Relays and Coaches Relays in Altoona winning many places. The 880 relay team fKelly, Crilly, Steiner, McNelisj won a berth at states, and Joe Burr, who went on to win the state discus title, was victorious. After a disastrous 0-7 initial loss to Altoona, the fired up netters knocked off such teams as Westmont, Huntington, and Lewistown in quick succession. With revenge on their minds, the team defeated Altoona in a return match by a score of 4--3. Mike Weiss and Don Creaser fought the Altoona doubles team right down to the wire to squeak out the Tiger victory. How- ever, always powerful State College managed to shut H-hurg's racketeers out twice during regular season play. In district six competition the doubles team of Greaser and Weiss were defeated in quarterfinal action. Scott Miller, the Colden Tigers' Singles hope, was defeated by the eventual champion.
